Services
We quickly established ourselves as the locals' favourite; attracting residents, office workers, builders and B-list celebrities, who would rub shoulders over coffee and croissants. Having earned a reputation for making great sandwiches and being able to remember our locals' favourite tipple, our name reached the BBC at White City where David Bowie, unhappy with the food offering on the Jonathon Ross show, had demanded better.
Lussmanns is founded on the fundamental belief that it's possible to be ethical and profitable. What we're trying to do is make sustainable dining accessible to everyone - providing a 'classy but classless', locals-driven alternative that consistently delivers great food, service and value to diners.
Our building team headed up by Michael Rhodes will soon join me at the old Bills as we shortly look to convert this characterful grade listed property in the centre of Berkhamsted into our new Lussmanns Sustainable Fish & Grill restaurant. We expect to open in early November and for those who wish to be kept up to date with our progress please join our mailing list below.
A discretionary 12.5% gratuity will be added to your bill. 100% of all gratuities go to our staff. We serve a complimentary dish of seasonal vegetables with all children's main courses. We take food allergies very seriously - please let us know if you have any. We cannot guarantee that any menu item is completely allergen-free due to cross-contamination.
Roger is one of the world's leading beer writers and tasters. The author of more than 20 books on the subject, including 300 Beers to Try Before You Die, he edited The Good Beer Guide from 2000-2018, has been named Glenfiddich Drink Writer of the Year award twice and received the first-ever Lifetime Achievement Award from the British Guild of Beer Writers.

Lovely restaurant spread over different levels in a building next to the cathedral in St Albans approached through a small walkway. Parking in town can be difficult and pre booking your table is a good idea as the restaurant can be busy. The ambience is lovely.
They have a good choice of vegetarian, vegan dishes, seafood, meats including steak and a great variety of desserts. We had fishcake, amazing baked aubergine and a mushroom stew, all excellent. The apple crumble and date and ginger pudding was delicious. The poached pear was average. Service was very friendly. There can be a wait between

Short stay in St Albans and decided to try Lussmanns. Good choice!
Very friendly and professional team had us seated and served in no time at all. Maybe our starter arrived 5 minutes too early after opting for the bread and olive to ease us into the evening - but we weren’t ever rushed, in fact we ate well prepared and presented food at our own pace, served by Jane who just seemed to be there just when we needed her and always with a smile. Fishcakes and skin-on fries were beautifully cooked and very tasty, leaving us too full for anything more than an Irish coffee, which definitely hit the

Lovely venue, warm, fresh food, but unfortunately very loud atmosphere and closely packed tables.
We were served by different 5 waitress throughout the evening, all asking us the same questions and one of which could not open our bottle of wine and then proceeded to pour more on the table than in our glasses.
Some of the waitresses were very sweet, but the food was quite bland and pricey.

EVERYTHING WAS SUPERB AND AMAZING QUALITY!
Made a reservation for this place for a Wednesday evening. Not sure but feel like its probably unlikely to get a table from just walking in.
The table ordered the Hunter's Linguine, South Coast devilled sprats and Roasted beetroot and Wobbly Bottom goat’s cheese salad. The sprats had a great crispy texture and retained their flavours. I didn't try the salad. The hunters linguine was fantastic. It was creamy, tasty, and the hare was awesome.
I had the steak frites for main and it provided everything you could ask for in a steak and fries meal. Very

LOVE this place! Every time I'm in town, I must stop here for a great meal. Service is always excellent, the servers are very friendly and attentive. We love the ambience and the decor - especially the glass ceiling. Over time, we have tried at least 20 different items off the menu, and it never disappoint! You can opt for al la carte or do a 3-course menu, which you can pick any apps, main and dessert off the menu for £18 - a really great deal. We also tried their Hertford location, and it's equally good!

Ingredients were fresh, the steak was perfectly cooked, cod cheeks were delicious, lots of local beers on the drinks list to choose from. It was busy but the staff did very well with our orders. There was not a long wait between our courses. Really nice ambience. We enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Lussmanns, St Albans was the perfect place for lunch on a dreary Saturday afternoon. The restaurant is recommended in the Waitrose Good Food Guide as one of the best places to eat in St Albans and I can see why!
They offer a lunch special midday to 7pm with two courses for £12.95 or three courses for £15.95, available weekdays and weekends. For starters I had the Devon cheddar cheese and leek croquettes with a tomato and sweet chili relish (a definite highlight) and pork schnitzel and linguine for main. Desert was a really heavenly sticky date pudding. Washed down with a yummy carafe of Chenin

The cosiest place ever.
Service is excellent.
Wild bream in a bag Delicious
Crème brûlée excellent
Loch Duart smocked salmon excellent
House fries below average
Chickpea & spiced tomato hotpot tzatziki & pain à l'ancienne : average where you struggle to trace the chickpeas -so you are practically left with tomato sauce, Parsnip and onions. Cumin should have been in the description for the non-fans of it and tzatziki is actually a tzatziki wanna be - sorry but vacation in Greece would be a benefit for the cook to learn how tzatziki should be
A pity fish and chips is only available

Nice restaurant, food seems a little overrated, last couple of times I've been, the portion sizes seem to be for children, food can be bland, or it can be amazing, very often it's cold, and I often send it back, it's a shame because this restaurant could be really good, service is prompt, but in my experience I've left feeling disappointed and hungry, and it's not especially cheap either.

Nicely lit, modern fit out restaurant in St Albans town centre. A little hidden away in an off street miny shopping arcade.
I had the Rillettes, Burger and Stick Toffee Pudding. The latter was absolutely delicious and comes second only to my wife's cranberry crumble (a Christmas tradition) in knee buckling dessert tastiness.
I was surprised to read Stuart G's negative review and urge him to give it maybe one more try as I have been around 4-5 times and it has always been a great experience.

Setting - Open, bright, well aired and spacious with a lovely modern feel. Great setting in my mind. Plants on the tables were a nice touch
Service - It was a bit quiet when we arrived so service was good, prompt though not overly enthusiastic. It was a Muggy Sunday though so I can let them off for that.
Food - Mackerel starter was nice, light and quite refreshing. Mains was Pork Belly which I found to be tender, tasty and filling with good mash. Crackling was a bit tough though also it was a shame that there was no veg with the meal and I didn't see any option to add any. Desert was a

Not a place you are going to a. Stumble across - as it's hidden away in a non eventful small square off the high street. And b. If you perhaps fancy taking your chances on a Friday night without a reservation - this place is always booked at the weekend! Step inside this modern spacious restaurant and you will notice straight away that this place is really buzzing. It's set on three floors with the kitchen in full view (for most diners on the ground floor) and the atmosphere is informal and relaxed. The menu is simple honest food with emphasis on the grill, fresh fish, and pasta options
