Newbank Garden Centre
The company was founded by John Hartle in the 1970's. He started life as a farmer rearing animals and selling eggs and dairy products before one day buying a few rose trees at a farmers market. These roses sold very quickly at the Royton site, so he decided to try selling a few types of plants alongside his farm produce, this led to the creation of one of Englands' first fully fledged garden centres.

John bought the second site at Radcliffe in 1986, Irwell bank farm was simply a disused farm with some derelict buildings. John saw the potential of the site, even though it was a huge risk to spend all his money on an unknown quantity. This turned out to be a stroke of genius as now our Radcliffe site is known across the country and is one of the top 30 independent garden centres in England.

Going to the garden centre is an experience many have had restricted for a long time, wondering if it would re - open at all, but our last trip was very good, the range of goods was excellent, and when we went for lunch, my meal was excellent, and my wife's was even better, they had even gone off menu to make a meal that used to be available, and it was very satisfactory, top marks.

Shocking. Went in Sunday to purchase garden furniture to be told 3 was in stock couldn’t take it that day but can arrange for delivery on Wednesday in which was arranged for the afternoon at my request as we could book half a day to take delivery. ( what a waste of a half day holiday )Was told I’d be called 30 minutes before never got a call until 4pm by the delivery driver ( lovely man) who had been into the warehouse that morning to pick up my furniture which they do not have in stock. The manager at new bank told the delivery driver to call me to ask if I want the display stock (at 4pm!
