Ruddington Village Museum was founded in 1968. It explores retail life in late Victorian and early Edwardian Ruddington through a series of displays which recreate Ruddington's shops of yesteryear. The museum occupies part of Ruddington's former Victorian school, an imposing building located opposite St. Peter's Church.
The museum's intimate atmosphere and use of open displays make it appealing to elderly visitors and children alike. All visitors are offered a guided tour of the museum, which lasts, depending on the loquaciousness of the volunteer on duty, between 45 minutes and 2 hours. Furthermore, all guests are also offered a free, comprehensive guide booklet.

Services
Ruddington Village Museum was opened in 1968 to display the collection of artefacts put together by founder Dorothy Shrimpton, but really our history started long before that. Dorothy had been building up her collection for around a decade before the museum was founded, storing items she had bought or been given, as well as those she had found through other means - sometimes even by digging through skips!.
At the Village Museum, we like to think we do things are a little bit differently. Museums aren't just about learning; they're also about having fun and enjoying shared family experiences. You won't find masses of display cases or labels at the Village Musuem, but a small, inimate space where you can appreciate the items on display at close hand and learn about their history and social significance.
Ruddington Village Museum displays its collection through a series of themed areas, including the Fish and Chip Shop, the Cobblers, and the Schoolroom. But these aren't the only things the museum owns - we have items from several periods of time, across Social History, Commercial History, Costumes and Textiles, and Archaeology.
We are interested in acquiring items which are of special significance to Ruddington's history where there is a prospect of them going on display in the museum. As you will see, we have a diverse array of items displaying aspects of late Victorian and early Edwardian Ruddington life. We would welcome any suitable donations that would bring extra interest to our collection!
At the Ruddington Village Museum, we would love to hear from anyone interested in volunteering to help out. If you have an interest in local history or just want to get involved in helping out an important part of the community, there are a few ways you can lend a hand. We are always looking for volunteers to help us in the care and conservation of our wonderful collection so people can continue to enjoy it in the future.

I was with the Gnosall Phoenix group on November 1ST.
We all thank you for such a warm welcome to your fantastic museum.
Many of us were old enough to remember some of the exhibits, but the display of the fish and chip shop and the chemists were a little before our time, although we all remembered the desks in the classroom section. The obvious dedication of all the volunteer guides was infectious and really made for an outstanding visit.
This coupled with our visit to the framework Knitters museum made the best day out we've had in many a year.
