Home of the National Tramway Museum, come and be transported back in time on our vintage trams. Soak up the atmosphere in our period street with a visit to the shops and take refreshments from the tearooms and in the Red Lion pub. We have taken measures to ensure all of our visitors enjoy a great day with us whatever their ability.
We are only 8 miles from the M1 and within an hour's drive of Derby, Stoke, Leicester, Sheffield, Nottingham and Doncaster. The nearest railway station is Whatstandwell, from which it is a steep uphill walk of about 1 mile. Ride on a variety of vintage trams, as most of our operational fleet will be running on this day!

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Crich Tramway Village. We have opportunities for volunteers in most areas of the Museum. Whether you would like to work behind the scenes or in the public eye, we have something to offer. Please complete the application below, or alternatively download the Word document version.
Become an Annual Member and help the National Tramway Museum to continue its amazing work for generations to come!. This fascinating Museum began during the decline of the tram in the 1950s. Founder members of the Tramway Museum Society became 'people with a mission' to rescue, store and restore as many types of tram as possible.
Are you looking for an exciting challenge and the opportunity to contribute to a Charity that is just a little bit different? Owned and operated by the Tramway Museum Society, Crich Tramway Village is the home of the National Tramway Museum, an Accredited Museum with a nationally Designated collection.
If you select 'No preference' your money will be used in an unrestricted way, where the Society is not required to spend the money on any particular project. This is obviously helpful in enabling the money to be put to immediate use, either by itself or, for bigger projects, together with moneys received from similar donations.

An excellent place to visit to take a tram ride to the past.... Some may say I am biased as I am a volunteer member of the tram crew, who drive and guard the tramcars... But this is a place that everyone should visit. The ticket price includes unlimited tram rides on the day and allows free admission for twelve months. Different trams run on each day and subject to volunteer availability three trams are scheduled to be available. Be aware however that the operating season is March to the end of October. Vital maintenance work takes place each winter. In just over sixty years the site has developed

Lovely place to visit. There are indoor exhibitions to learn about the part played by trams years ago. There are cafes and a pub for refreshments that are reasonably priced too. Tram rides are a must, and… you can now ride them as often as you like in your visit. The volunteers/employees work hard as the whole site is spotless.

Tramway museum in Derby, 20 min drive from town centre. It's on a hilly area, so carry travel bands/tablets, if you have anyone with motion sickness. I would say 3 hours would be more than sufficient to explore the whole place even with the little ones. Major attraction being tram rides, which vary in shape and size. Tram run around is in 2-3 mile radius. With tram leaving every 15min. It's open all 7 days from 10 am - 5.30pm with last entry around 4pm. You have restaurants which offer you fast food like bergers, chips, drinks and ice creams. Toilets are available and clean. They also have live

What a great place to spend a day… so much to see and do, the execution is brilliant with period buildings dismantled from their original location and rebuilt here, we spent a day and could have spent longer, well worth the very reasonable entry cost and the cafe was reasonable as well. Pet friendly and such a great atmosphere you’ll have as wonderful a time here as we did.

The trams are superb and such a large collection to see and the tram rides were very good with the staff taking extra care to wipe down… hand rails etc. between groups.
The pub was a great place for a light lunch freshly prepared rolls were very tasty.
All in a all fab day out.

A brilliant place to visit. This place was so fun. The tram city is very cute with lots of old trams to see and you also get to ride some of the working trams as many times as you like. The walking trail is awesome. So much to discover with little sculptures some which are hidden and small little activities to do. We really had a fun time exploring around. Definitely recommend coming here especially if you have kids.

Lovely day out with the kids. Was really surprised at what was on offer. I would say just over half day is fine. Fascinating how they built it all and the history. Well worth it if your kids are say up to 14/15 or they love history. Nice home made produced sweets/beers etc. Well worth the entrance fee. Has a lovely woodland walk from the top which really extends the day - we loved playing with the massive dominoes

Absolutely loved this place. Thought I'd spend a couple of hours here, ended up spending the day. Let's start with the staff, they are brilliant. There were a couple of young men with learning difficulties, the staff made them feel very special, in a very appropriate way, I'm sure they will go away with happy memories of Crich. The tram collection is superb, it's not boring, it's been put together to be interesting. The tram rides along the high street and out into the countryside offer superb views over the surrounding countryside. You can then jump off and follow the woodland walk back down,

We recently visited Crich Tramway Museum after a ten year gap since our previous visits. No regrets!
Pretty good value, especially if you live close enough to make good use of the years validity of the tickets!
Plenty to learn in the museum, great if you love a plaque to read and interactive activities for children.
Enjoyed a pineapple cider sitting outside the pub and the kids had ice cream from the ice cream parlour. Prices are really reasonable once inside, unlike some places that fleece you for all they can!
The tram rides are lots of fun and you can jump on and off as many times as you

This is an interesting spot to visit but for the price of £19 for adults and £11 for kids it feels pretty overpriced. They do have a large collection of old trams that you can view from. The outside and a number you get to ride on but aside from that it feels overpriced compared to other tourist destinations in England. There are a lot of activities for kids to do up in the playground and in the wood area but still feels like a heavy entrance price for a single visit. If you can attend throughout the year this could be a fun spot to take the kids though.

The hike from the railway station is a steep climb to the village and when I arrived, I was in tram (streetcar) heaven. If you must know what it is like here, then go on youtube and watch all of the trams that operate. These pieces of rolling stock are in such supreme condition. The best part about this place is the fact that you can see most of the rolling stock closeup. The ticket can be used again up a years time. All of the folks here were very nice. Always wanted to visit this place first hand and I'm so glad that I've done it. I would also recommend buying the booklet "

We visited this place totally by accident and loved it. The nature trail was so unexpected and really impressive. We were so surprised by the size of the anthill and ants that actually lived by the ant sculptures
The rest of the village also really impressed us, the reconstruction of the houses was very good, the streets most realistic. And of course the tramways were in beautiful condition and it was a real treat to go for a ride.
A great day out, with or without children. For a similar experience you could also go and visit the black country museum in Dudley.

I took my small son to Crich Tramway Village for their special Thomas the Tank Engine day. Wow! What a great day out. From the moment we arrived by a very good bus service from Matlock, there was plenty to see and do.
The Thomas scenarios - short stories with activities - were spread out through the day so we could explore the rest of the museum in between. They involved the kids in the scenarios, for example helping to fill Thomas' boiler with water from little buckets. If I have one criticism though it was the commercialism surrounding Thomas. A stall selling toys and souvenirs took pride
