The museum collection galleries tell the story of the people who have created Saddleworth's landscape and character. The museum has something for all the family, is wheelchair friendly, and presents its' collections, shop and facilities in a thoroughly modern way within the carefully restored fabric of a building dating back to 1862.

Our canal-side community gallery provides additional space for the local community and is the scene of varied art exhibitions, presentations, museum fundraising events and learning activities. Saddleworth Museum and Gallery is a registered charity no. 528225) and fully accredited museum (no. 191. We are primarily independently funded relying on visitor admissions, gallery income, fundraising events and donations.
Services
The museum is housed in the remains of the old Victoria Mill (originally built in 1862) which was purchased in 1959 by our founder Roger Tanner MBE DL. The museum building (probably the original steam room for the mill) was the only part of the mill to survive. The rest of the mill used to occupy a sizable area including the space which is now the car park at the side of the museum.
Saddleworth Museum currently have three local external partners who consistently contribute, are associated with us on a regular basis, and go that "extra mile", to support and promote the Museum, volunteers and "Friends". The Canalside Quilters, Greenfield Publishing and the Saddleworth Group of Artists.
We have for many years, with a small break whilst the museum was being refurbished, been a resident group in the community gallery at Saddleworth Museum and Gallery on a Tuesday. We try to support all local charities with an annual donation and the museum, being a registered charity (and our favourite "home from home"), will continue to be our dedicated charity whever we can.
Please check our Shop Onsite and Events and Art Exhibition pages for their own specific guidance. The museum continues to offer on-line shopping, art online and joining the Friends of the Museum and 200+club (monthly lottery). The museum is located at Number 23 the High Street, Uppermill, post code OL3 6HS at the side of the A670.
Face coverings are required until you take your seat at your table. As you enter the community gallery, our volunteers will explain the procedure, take your admission, offer you a raffle ticket and most probably ask you to record contact details. This event will follow current NMDC guidelines and the Gov. UK guidance to museums.

The museum opened in 1962 and is housed in the outbuildings of the Victoria Mill, a 19th-century mill building which stood beside the Huddersfield Narrow Canal.
