Monti in Southend-on-Sea is a Roman family restaurant serving an amazing selection of Italian food. However, its story began in the south of Italy, where Nonno Pino was born in Mazzarino, a small village in the heart of Sicily. He decided to move to Rome where he started working in an Italian kitchen and played guitar in his spare time.
In 1965, he opened his first pastry shop in an area called Rione Monti, right underneath the Colosseum, in the very centre of the first district of Rome. You can see his first machine, which he bought in the same year, displayed in the restaurant. It was also in 1965 when Papa' Enrico, the head chef, was born from the love between Nonno Pino and Nonna Rossana.

Fantastic Italian restaurant serving a great variety of contemporary food with a dash of fun.
The restaurant is surprisingly spacious with lots of tables. Staff are friendly and happy to discuss the menu. And they will need to, it's very extensive with specials too. We enjoyed a range of dishes with pasta, pizza and more besides and all really tasty.
A wonderful restaurant I'll definitely be heading back to.

Read the reviews for the food and gave this restaurant a try...the starters which were mussels were very slimy and didn’t hold there form and the dish wasn’t even hot. The large prawns 🍤 were not fresh and also not meaty in consistency and held very little flavour. The main courses was ok but be careful what you choose. The service was excellent, and catered for your every need. I wouldn’t go there personally myself but others may do. Thank you allow this review on.

My third outing to this gem yesterday, over a two month period. Yes, it is genuinely a friendly family restaurant, yes, the service is excellent without being obtrusive and yes, the food delights on every level. I was in two minds before posting this review: on the one hand, I want to know that this jewel of a restaurant is not suddenly packed out by the so-called "glitterati"; on the other hand, all those behind Monti Ristorante Italiano deserve so much praise.

If you haven't been lucky enough to try this place...you really must..one of the best meals I have had locally...
Food excellent...service excellent...from walking in to going home it was just excellent...
Portion size is good and hot..prices match..you get what you pay for... absolutely lovely family run business
Who obviously know how to give excellent customer service.... staff like to check how things are and nothing is too much trouble..The actual venue is really big, from the outside looks small but it's actually massive inside and beautifully decorated. It's always busy..and if you do

First time here last night and was completely wowed by both the quality of the food and the service. Nothing I could fault at all with this restaurant. Cannot wait to return and dine here again.
Lovely setting inside, attentive and knowledgeable waiting staff and 10 out of 10 food.
This is London quality in Southend.

Managed to get a late reservation here on a very busy Friday night and got a really nice cosy table. Despite being such a busy night, we were enthralled by the staff going up and down ferrying the food from the kitchen. We also sneaked some sights from the kitchen and could see the cooks working on so many tickets! Food came promptly and was artistically presented (props for creativity). We got the seafood pasta and the ham mushroom pizza, followed by tiramisu and donuts and they were all delicious. However, what made the visit so amazing was our loveliest waitress, Elena who was ever so kind to
