The Skewer House is a family owned restaurant situated in the historic town of Rochford in Essex. We specialise in the traditional Portuguese dish Espetada. The Espetada is a typical dish made from beef skewered onto a bay leaf stick cooked over hot coals or wood chips. We at the Skewer House have expanded on the traditional Espetada and also offer a variety of skewers including chicken, pork, prawns, vegetables and halloumi cheese.
We regularly visit Billingsgate and Smithfield Markets in London to ensure all our meat and fish is as fresh as can be. Originally from Madeira, as a family we have been in the restaurant business for many years; our original venture is O'Picado in Westcliff-on-Sea. We pride ourselves on being a family friendly, traditionally Madeiran restaurant where everyone is welcome.

Services
Wine from popular Alentejo region which is to the north of Portugal. A rich deep and intensely fruity wine, full of red fruit flavours with just a subtle hint of vanilla. Dao Sul wine with good color, rich tannin and balance of strawberry like fruit and acidity. Made from early ripened grapes giving it its fruity flavour.

I had a really good experience in there, the sirloin skewer was good, flavoured as expected, the side portions were big enough for 1 person, i loved the chorizo. The desserts were amazing and again the portion were generous. Price affordable!
Only 4 stars, because the flatbread was cold and the sirloin skewer was too hard to be sirloin, i was expecting to be really tender but wasn't the case.

Food was lovely.the waitress wasn't coming over to take our drinks order,we had to call her over twice. The main problem was the toilet...there was only one which is for men and women to share which I didn't like as it stunk like a men's urinal and the floor was all wet definitely need more than 1 toilet in the restaurant .really put us off .

We eat here fairly regularly for business dinners and entertaining suppliers or customers.
The food is always fantastic and full of flavour, a nice selection of drinks as well.
But what makes it all the more enjoyable are the staff, they always attempt to go the extra mile to make each and every meal 5*
If you are ever in Rochford you must eat here, you won’t regret it.

First time I visited last night and personally, I thought this place is fantastic. Nice, cosy and clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful from start to finish. The food was delicious. The portions were generous. And the price was surprisingly good. I would definitely recommend and will definitely be going back again.

Please see picture attached of what you will not believe is a corn on the cob with courgette. Amazingly this food took 90 minutes to arrive! We were a table of ten and planning on a nice Christmas lunch.. and what a mistake that was! When the food finally arrived after 90 minutes it was burnt to a crisp, whilst the remainder of the table still waited for their food and watched other tables be served ahead of us, the chef was able to cook more chorizo before completing our order! I would not recommend this to anyone, the out dated decor and slippery greasy floors would ensure I never return....
