Is was OK, take a headphones for the audio and a phone as you have to download to your own phone
Didn't know that!
We took the guided tour with a miner he was lovely friendly funny and a wealth of information
Felt the actual museum could have been better
There was alot of the space that was left the ruins yet a full £4 million over haul of a roof and half of that area isn't even used
Sad to see the amount of jobs lost through the closer not just the miners but all the others as well, joiners plumbers engineers surveyors cleaners admin catering staff etc - a huge loss to the area

Great place with lots of interesting knowledge and history of mining in general. We didn't do the tours and only did the two floors of the museum because of time, but it looked very good. There is a great little cafe and toilets, ample parking and a small play area for the kids in between eating and visiting :)

The National Mining Museum has a lovely cafe and gift shop for a snack and gifts, but that isn't why I visited. I was privileged to be given a tour from a guide who was himself a former miner at this facility. Because he was a career miner, he knew all the intricacies of mining and the museum. Both the guide and the museum brought to life the intense and necessary industry of Scottish coal mining, and at no moment during my visit did I find myself under stimulated. The visit was very much enjoyable and I would recommend it to anyone with a few hours to spare.

Very interesting and worth going. Our tour guide, John Anderson is an ex employee of the mine and very friendly and knowledgeable. I had high expectations of the tour and was excited about it and he made the tour that much better than I was expecting. Nice chap. The winding engine is very impressive. We have already recommend this place by word of mouth and the feedback was good too.
