Welcome to the Year of the Ox as we bid farewell to the Year of the Rat - and what a year that was! This year's artwork is once again based on an original drawing by Yevheniia Mikheenko, with storyboarding by Instructor Sharon Ngo.

The oxen shown are native species in several parts of the world - but what unites them is their steadfastness in the face of attack. It takes some courage to stop running and turn to face down a predator but that is what these animals do - if flight does not work it is time to engage fight. And forming an outward circle of those fearsome horns to protect the herd is to be respected from a prey species.

Our style is the fundamental traditional type of Chinese Kung Fu. Born out of a woman's need to defend herself and fight injustice, developed and refined in the turbulent battlefields of Chinese history, and used today to perpetuate a cultural heritage. The style taught in our classes is Tiger Crane Combination Kung Fu, an acknowledged part of the White Crane System of Kung Fu.
All instructors who teach children's classes have a DBS (CRB) check done before they open that class. All instructors have insurance with WAKO GB, and have agreed to abide by WAKO GB's Child Protection Policies. Children do not do any sparring. They do not have the physical or mental control to be allowed to hit each other.
Each Instructor has a page to write about themselves, but this is background to what we look for, how we select and train our instructors, and what we expect of them. Most teach full time as their sole profession, but some teach alongside another career or academia. Regardless, they all have to train with the Chief Instructor, Dennis Ngo.
Our classes are very beginner friendly. Don't be put off if you haven't done a martial art before as it can sometimes help not to have any bad habits! Most of our clubs run several types of class - Kung Fu, Tai Chi, Fighting, Weapons, and Patterns. There are separate children's classes. There is more information on the individual club pages.
I train every day. That is also how I learnt, starting over fifty years ago, and I continue to this day. I train to uncover the deepest meanings of what I have been taught - I teach to pass on what I have been taught. And that is how Kung Fu endures. Yet I am also one of the fortunate ones. I am in no doubt of the style I practise - the White Crane System of Tiger Crane Kung Fu.
