The Gables Veterinary Centre is a well established small animal practice. Our friendly team of vets, nurses, and receptionists are all committed to providing your pet with the very best in veterinary care. As pet owners ourselves, here at Gables Vets we understand the need for excellent treatment and advice in a welcoming and friendly environment.

We know your pet is a cherished member of the family and we aim to make your visits as enjoyable as we possibly can, for both of you. Alongside our vets' expertise, our dedicated nurses run regular clinics, which include weight checks, over 8's clinics, and puppy and kitten checks and can advise you on any aspects of your pet's care and treatment - to help keep your pet happy and healthy throughout its life.
Services
The Gables in First Lane, Hessle has been a Veterinary Clinic since the 1970's. The Practice was initially started by Mr Whitley and it then became part of Norwood Veterinary Group. In those days it was truly a mixed practice seeing farm animals, as well as horses and domestic pets. In 2000 Mr Michael Thomson came out of the partnership with Norwood Veterinary Group and started running The Gables Vets with his wife Margaret.
For all repeat prescriptions we need to have seen your pet in the last 3 - 6 months depending on the pet's conditions. Some long term medications may require more frequent health checks. It is important to provide up to date contact details, in case there is a problem with your request. The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons guidelines state that veterinary surgeons can only dispense medicines to "animals under our care".
We'd love to welcome you and your pet(s) to Gables Vets, where you will have access to all of the knowledge and services our team can offer. Just fill in the details below, and a member of our team will be in touch to complete your registration. Please note that your registration is not complete until you have received confirmation from a member of our team.
Every year animal charities are inundated with unwanted or abandoned dogs. Neutering your dog will stop this number increasing and also stop any behavioural issues and help with any health problems later in life. A bitch's first "season" or "heat", usually occurs at 6 to 9 months of age, and the average bitch comes on "heat" twice a year.
Cats and Kittens are threatened by several dangerous diseases. Vaccinations can be started from 9 weeks of age, this is a course of vaccines, the second one being given at 12weeks of age. A booster is required annually. Feline Rhinotracheitis and Calicivirus are the two most common cause of "cat flu" in the UK.

Had to have my dog of 18 years put to sleep today and cannot express my feelings but the staff were absolutely great in both the care of my dog and myself. 10 out of 10 and will continue to use and recommend.

Brought my puppy here for her 2nd vaccine to be lectured about how I am feeding her food that is not suitable for her (food states suitable from 8 weeks plus) when explaining this to the vet was told that there is no such thing as an all purpose dog food..... despite there being several companies that cater all stages, I highlighted this and that my other dog has thrived on the very same food and was rudely told to do what I do best.
I think it'd also about time that vets started opening up and allowing you to attend appointments with your pet, if not just for the pets own comfort, but also the

All the staff here including the nurses and receptionists are very caring. Both vets have taken so much care of my dog Marley over the last 6 months whilst he has been poorly and kept me updated whilst facing difficult times with this pandemic, nothing seemed too much trouble. When the time came to put him to sleep the vet could not have been more caring and I was allowed to be with my dog for as long as I needed. Thank you xx

Well, they took some of my dog's teeth out (12yr old), looked after him really well (as all good vets should) and didn't charge a fortune.
