The Black Boy is a traditional back street boozer. Located outside of the hustle and bustle of the city centre, The Black Boy sits in a quiet residential area. We have been known for many years as an interesting and quirky pub, furnished with old tables and chairs, and decorated with an eclectic mix of art, clutter and taxidermy.
It has been under the same ownership since 1995 and continues to offer a refreshing bolthole for a cross section of drinkers. Concentrating mainly on real ale sourced from Hampshire, it still has a small, but carefully sourced wine list. As a traditional pub, beer is the main ingredient, but homemade food is also served 6 days a week.

Services
The main courses changing daily, and can be found with the menu written up over the fire place. All of our sandwiches are made with bread from a local bakery, and are served with a choice of chips or homemade soup. Sunday lunchtimes are a traditional Sunday Roast, the choices normally being; lamb, chicken, beef or a vegetarian option.

Stopped here for a drink and some chill time. Lovely staff. Board games too which were a fun time-waster. I qas recommended to come here after my Dad visited years ago and it was definitely a good shout. Thanks to the staff for making us aware of more tables around the back when we were about to leave thinking there was no space as looked full! It is a very quirky pub and definitely one to visit!

Great pub. Large, old buildings with really nice covered outside seating. This is more of a traditional cask ale pub with lots of history. I was expecting a bigger selection of beers but it really depends what's on offer when you visit. Does a decent pint of Guinness too. If you like your pubs traditional, eith lots of interesting things to look at and pleasant staff, this could be the place for you.

As soon as you walk in you are struck by the quirkyness of the place. The pub is adorned with quarky decorations throughout, so much so that each time I am there I find myself wondering around and checking out decor. That aside the beer is great and the staff friendly, it is easy to get served when busy and the lunches are very good. The customers are friendly but not overly so and the atmosphere is releaxed but fun. I can not speak highly enough of this place, has to be one of the best pubs in Hampshire if not beyond.

Love this place. If you are visiting Winchester, I highly recommend you take the time and visit the Black Boy. The first time I visited, I was trying to get to their sister restaurant, the Black Rat... but they had some odd hours and were closed. But the Black Boy is quite a find.
And no... I can't imagine this place with its name in the states.
The walk along the little river over to the pub is stunning really. Winchester has such beautiful spots.
The inside of the pub is decorated in a mix of collections of antiquities. All quite nicely displayed. We enjoyed some good food and
