Services
Built in 1735 for the Dowager Countess Poulett and later the home of the Duc du Stackpoole, the Alexandra became a hotel in 1901 and for over 100 years has continued to uphold its tradition as a timeless haven of English peace and charm. The Alexandra has been privately owned and managed by the Haskins family for over 30 years, providing guests with the upmost in comfort and luxury.
As befits an historic house, each one of our bedrooms is completely individual. They are very different in size, shape and aspect. Decorated with a simple, yet traditional English style, most rooms have breathtaking coastal and sea views. Facing south with a lovely view from its quaint window of Lyme Bay and the Cobb Harbour below.
When creating interesting and varied dishes, we use the wealth of local producers in the West Country, and also adhere to our pledge of using only sustainable fish by closely following the Good Fish Guide issued by the Marine Conservation Society. Lyme is a busy little town but in our oasis of peace and calm you can enjoy great food and stunning sea views.
Seaviews and the dramatic cliffs of the Jurassic coast make the Alex one of the most romantic wedding settings in the country. Fully licensed for civil wedding ceremonies, blessings, vow renewals and receptions, our weddings are totally tailored and personalised to each couple and our wedding team will be on hand to make sure your special day is utterly perfect, unique and individually unforgettable.
We love a party at the Alexandra and with different rooms to suit your needs, whatever you're celebrating, we are able to provide you with the perfect setting for your celebration. With our beautiful 18th Century Chapel, elegant Dining Room, light filled Orangery and romantic Garden Lookout Tower to choose from, we can happily accommodate you in rooms full of their own unique style and dcor.

Stayed in room 47 which is on the ground floor overlooking the entrance path to Langmoor Gardens. The room was very basic and dated. The window did not close and we were woken every night by revellers returning from beach parties and then again at 6:45 by the Gardner using power tools. Reported the window issue after the first night but nothing was done and we were unable to move rooms as the hotel was full. The hotel has amazing views from the garden and restaurant but the management should not expect this to make up for poor experience and basic rooms.

Our friends took us for lunch to thank us for staying at ours. Two stars are for the view and a lovely company, the rest was below average, I am afraid. The menu on the website does not match the menu offered on arrival. Although we were early, a couple of dishes were not available. Our chicken main dish was dry, a side dish cold. So disappointing - we should have just had a drink and enjoy the view.

Lovely lunch, superb views. The champagne we ordered wasn’t in stock we were told after we’d ordered, and we eventually got another bottle half way through our starters, but it didn’t spoil our visit. Nice to sit on comfy chairs outside with such a view. The lovely gentleman that served us and cleared our plates was not intrusive, but very pleasant. Thank you, we will return.x
