Services
I trained at the London College of Furniture and have over 25 years experience in traditional, contemporary and contract upholstery. In my early years I worked as an apprentice building up my skills and knowledge in the craft before opening Porterhouse Design in 2006. We are a friendly professional team with a passion for what we do.
With our roots set firmly in traditional methods, horse hair, jute webbing, double cone springs, cotton felt, and hessian are just a few of the traditional materials we still use today. When working on contemporary designs with modern methods and materials, we use our traditional skills to achieve the same high standard of finish, as with the finest antiques.
When planning a refurbishment we understand how important it is not to lose business - that is why we specialise in working as much as possible off-site. By minimising the need to work on-site we can ensure that your premises remains open for business as usual. We also supply a wide range of table stands, tops and chairs which can be upholstered in any fabric of your choice - see our catalogue.
We provide a wide range of fabrics from our suppliers listed below. We can also source any other kind of fabric including leather and vinyl, if you have any requests let us know. Note: some fabrics may not be inherently fire retardant so will need to be treated or used in conjunction with a fire retardant inter-liner to meet UK fire regulation standards.

WOW WOW WOW WOW... kind of says it all really. I needed my Two seat Sofa Upholstering and Webbing restrung. Martin came around my Home to assess my request. Next Day I visited his workshop to chose fabric. Once agreed Martin completed The Job in 3 Days. To say I am delighted is an understatement. Here is a Business to be Trusted. What a guy! Martin provided us with a fabulous service. He was very generous with his time in helping us pick the right material for our chairs and once ordered he also turned the job around pretty quickly.
Given the material we bought was relatively pricey he also offered to make us a cushion with the off cuts totally free of charge. He’s a pleasure to spend time with, offering friendly and impartial advice, not to mention a master craftsman. Would recommend highly.

Absolutely superb! Real craftman and incredible people too! I had some really important but difficult jobs for them, and Martin and his team absolutely flew through them. These guys get things done! Lovely company, completely trustworthy and great fun. I doubt there is another team out there as skilled as these guys. Can't thank them enough.
