Services
At E & A Wates we provide a full restoration service for every needy piece of furniture from Jacobean through to 20th century designs. With three options of French polishing work available we can strip and repolish a badly damaged piece, clean and revive or simply touch in and wax lesser damage.
We are happy to spend time providing solutions for everything from making new leaves for a table to creating replica chairs or proposing new marquetry to overcome a badly burnt surface. Many are the times when we've restored a dinner party victim! We also provide these increasingly rare skills. Please email us a photo and rough measurements of your furniture and we will be able to give you some restoration options and a guide to price.

This shop is a hidden gem. It has a wonderful selection of eclectic reasonably priced furniture. Therese and her team are outstanding. They are knowledgeable, patient and very supportive. I spent about a year looking for a sofa, including travelling to north London and by chance found this treasure of a store in my own neighbourhood. It’s a long established family business that also supports local designers, artists and furniture makers.

Very disappointed. Have purchased furniture here and have been very satisfied; however, have emailed on two separate items requiring repair/upholstery via email, taking time to take and send several photographs of furniture (as requested by helpful staff on the phone) only to receive no reply. Emailed again several times; no reply. Do not have time for this kind of service!! This low level of customer service has had an impact on my view of this, otherwise unique, high end furniture store. Maybe they are so successful that they do not need my customer money! I am now going elsewhere for my upholstery

There are not enough stars here for how I feel about this shop. I have actually bought quite a few items of furniture here and was interested in having some furniture re-upholstered. The results are stunning - these two sofas - one 70 years old and one 40 years old plus a chair have been restored so beautifully that I am actually stunned by how wonderful they look. Sharon who did the work is an absolute artist - and Teresa who handled the transaction was so very kind and attentive. This has been such personal work and I am delighted with the results. The staff here are always friendly - and must

This is a rather unusual furniture shop from the looks of it it seems to be a single owner business not a chain. Sells upmarket furniture in unusual fabrics. If you want something more than a bit special you could well look here. It all looks good quality as well v well made. It is in old fashioned premises and you have to access several floors up rather narrow staircases, not quite stepladders but almost

A truly great shop. It has to be the best in London for a whole heap of reasons. It oozes creativity and all the furnishings are really well chosen. I do mean it is the best. Heals watch out. It is a rare gem in this era of internet shopping. I want to see feel and take in colours, textures and shapes and all that is here in bucket loads. And if the designs on offer don't speak for themselves then speak with the lovely uber sweet staff there will - I loved Theresa. She really knows her stuff. We went in - as we have been meaning to for at least 30 years - for a carpet ! I was overwhelmed with the

Quite hopeless. After emailing twice, as requested, with photos of the chair and sofa I wishes to have covered and the furniture I wanted to have French polished, I received no response. So I went to the shop, where the staff found my emails on the system and apologised for ignoring them. There I selected a fabric and was assured that the owner would be in touch with me with a quote the following Monday. He wasn't. So I rang, and left a message- which was ignored. So I rang again, left a further message and was ignored again. I rang a third time to be told that the owner was at a meeting and would
