It is advisable (if available) to talk to the relevant professionals attending during the last illness on the procedure following the death. A Medical Practitioner (Doctor) will issue the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death (Form 11) after the death has happened but this varies as to where and when the death occurs.
The registrar will inform you of this process at the time of registration - (not beforehand) and whether the deceased's registration is chosen for this review. A clear time span must be allowed after this registration appointment if chosen. An appointment must be made via Scottish Borders Council or any other Scottish registrar (if death in Scotland).
We will offer information on the appropriate local church or minister available in the area. If you are a church member, please advise us accordingly, if not, we will discuss the options available to you. The church in our local communities play a vital role in the support network. We have many denominations within our area which provide a great support network to the bereaved after the funeral has taken place.
