Where you are now is part-way on a journey. You may be at a doorway in your life facing choices about which way to go. Do you move forward and up, take a turn to one side, retrace your steps, or stay where you are? Therapy provides the opportunity for us to explore and take in the view together, to enable you to find your way.

My name is Alex Proudfoot and I work as a therapist in private practice in Central Manchester, and surrounding districts. I also offer webcam sessions for English speaking clients worldwide. I am an advanced therapist and offer short term therapy in which to explore a specific area of your life.
Services
Having first qualified in Counselling and Psychotherapy in 2012, I specialise in a humanistic and integrative counselling approach and have worked in recent years both voluntarily with clients in local agencies and in private practice. I am currently in the latter stage of training as an Advanced Integrative Therapist at the College of Cognitive Behaviour Therapies (CCBT) at Bath University.
Counselling and Therapy provide the opportunity to explore issues that are troubling you in a supportive environment. It is usually short term with a fixed number of sessions and an aim in mind. A major part of the work involves you carrying out tasks to enable you to become your own therapist.

At Doorways Counselling, I firmly believe that offering you a compassionate, non-judgmental and safe environment gives you an opportunity to trust your own experience and feelings.This provides a solid framework from which healing some of the deepest wounds experienced in life can begin to take place, as you gradually become more robust and able to access your own resources.
At Doorways Counselling, I offer short term Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) with the philosophical basis of Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) in which to explore a specific area of your life. My approach to therapy is integrative, which simply means that I draw upon these and other models of therapy when working with clients.
Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) is a branch of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) which offers a logical and practical approach to psychological wellbeing. REBT is about emotional responsibility and philosophical change. The aim of REBT is to help you help yourself move towards psychological health.
I was having flashbacks and trouble sleeping after an accident leading to breaking my leg in two places. After a single session with Alex my sleeping is back to normal and I haven't had any flashbacks. This is testament to her skill, kindness, calm healing energy and the effectiveness of EMI therapy.
