Graeme rides and races road, enduro Mtb and a bit of cross/XC/gravel. He is a full-time citizen cyclist - his bike is his primary mode of transport. He founded Hart's Cyclery in 2012 when he needed to find something to do when he left the RAF after 11 years' service. Graeme has now been wrenching for 8 years and is a Level 3 (Diploma) qualified bike mechanic.
Frank rides road and MTB. He commutes every day from the other side of town and is still battling the KOMs on the A8. He has been a bike mechanic at some of the best bike shops in Scotland for over 20 years. Danny rides dirt jump bikes (mostly in the air) and rips it up on his MTB and gravel bike. He's sponsored by Kona UK through the shop.

While I don’t have any problem with the staff in the shop, I am very disappointed in the quality, care and surprise over cost of service received.
QUALITY:
I booked my bike in for the “classic” service which was completed by “frank”? which includes a full bike safety check and FULL bike wash and degrease… I was very disappointed to see that when picking my bike up it was still very noticeably dirty - wheels, tires, handlebar, pedals, crank, chain rings, fork, seat stays, seat post, saddle, crossbar and frame had dirt on them showing a complete careless wash (if one was even done in

I have been using Harts Cyclery for about 5 years now during which time they have repaired and maintained my road bike, my mtb and my gravel bike.
This work includeded truing wheels, replacing drive chains and replacing bottom brackets and headsets. I ride my bikes pretty hard so it's handy to have them nearby.
I've yet to buy a bike off Graeme but now that the bike to work scheme includes local shops too, I'll be keen to see what deals he has.
Bike repairs can be expensive but I've never been anything other than satisfied with the work carried out.
But this is true of all the independent bikes

My partner took his well used Genesis Tour De Fer for a service here & was well aware it needed a thorough job done as well as a good few parts .
The bike was returned in a day & he came back with a big smile on his face.
It now runs beautifully & his estimate of cost was about twice what Hart's charged .

I've bought a few things here over the last year, just testing what I thought of it by buying wee things like new lights, a lock and a water bottle. I took my hybrid bike in for a service on Monday, I knew what needed replaced and what didnt already. They fixed exactly what I knew needed fixed and didn't changed things that didnt need changed. They also added a bit of metal to prevent my basket from wearing out my stem more than it already had, much appreciated!
My bike is running so much better now. I might know how to service a bike but I don't have the tools anymore. It's great to know that

Put in son’s bike for a repair and they carried out additional work that wasn’t asked for. It may well have been required and a simple phone call was all that was required to confirm, but it didn’t happen. The boy I spoke to came across as arrogant (as in we know what we’re doing you don’t!). Wouldn’t use them again as they lacked basic customer service.

Having not cycled for a long time and receiving a bike poorly set up by the retailer I purchased from, the service/set-up provided by Hart's Cyclery gave me great confidence on my first cycle in years. One day turnaround and lots of advice/pointers left me very pleased with the service overall. A bit pricier than the large chain stores like Halfords but I benefitted from the knowledge and customer care that a dedicated independent store should provide and felt the price was justified.
