Countesthorpe village saw the arrival of its first GP between the wars when a lady doctor, Dr Wyn Barnly, started a surgery linked to her father's practice in Wigston. In the early 1950s, she was joined by Dr A F Hoffler who succeeded her and who is still remembered by many Countesthorpe residents today from his time practising from his house on The Square.
As the village expanded during the 1960s, Dr Hoffler was joined as a partner by Dr Geronwy in 1965, followed by Dr Allen in 1973 when Dr Geronwy was replaced by Dr Wright. The practice outgrew its premises in The Square and so the present Health Centre was built and opened in 1977.

Services
The appointment system at Countesthorpe Health Centre is designed to help you to get to see a doctor as soon as possible. We also try to avoid any missed appointments where patients forget to turn up. Quite simply this means that if you need to see a doctor you should make an appointment on the day that you wish to be seen.
The Patient Participation Group was established in 2008 with local patients being invited to attend meetings on a bi-monthly basis. A partner from the practice always attends the meetings to address and share information with the group. If you have a complaint please address this to the Practice Manager, who will respond swiftly and in confidence.

I left this surgery a while ago am writing this review now as I've a family member currently in tears after a very nasty phone consultation of one of the staff! If you want to feel like you're a hypochondriac this is the place for you 😉 you'll have all you're concerns completely ignored and even medical records tampered with!! I have proof! I have 1 family member die and another whose death could have been delayed if takes seriously the first time. Due to medical professionals disregarding their symptoms. Every physical issue you have will be questioned as a symptom of stress. The doctors will

I don't know who's decision it was to take the phone off the hook in the mornings, but it makes a complete mockery of local health care.
Been trying to get an appointment for weeks, but I just can't get through. Phone constantly engaged.
They try to push people on to their online system, but it is designed to send you around in circles. There are many elderly residents who just want to arrange things over the phone without that level of hassle. Pick up the phone!
I've lived in Countesthorpe for years and this used to be a fantastic surgery that would be responsive to the needs of local people

Quite possibly the worst service around at the moment. almost impossible to get an appointment. not surprising when they close early on what seems to be most days now. an NHS service crying out for more money - yet you can't use it. It takes over 15 minutes to answer the phone, then the rude and intrusive receptionist is apparently a doctor themselves telling us how urgent something is. 9am in the morning and they have no appointments left that day, call again the next day or get the next 'pre bookable' in 7 days time. even then, its a telephone consultation and they will decide if they need to

It has been incredibly disappointing service during the pandemic. On several occasions throughout the last 14 months I have been unable to make an appointment all all. There have been no alternatives and consistently the call takers/receptionists have not been helpful or sympathetic. It leaves patients having to navigate walk in centres/A&E, putting them at extra risk and putting the hospitals in further demand really unnecessarily. It really is such a massive shame as Countesthorpe has been a brilliant surgery for our family for over 20 years. 14 months after the pandemic has begun to be in the

If you've got any form of chronic health problems and need referrals to hospital departments, do not bother registering with this practice. Some of the doctors are lazy and incompetent. Patients quality of life and symptom control is definitely not at the forefront of some of these GP's minds. Instead it's about saving money and keeping time spent with patients to a bare minimum.

FLU-JAB- THANK YOU once again to the AMAZING TEAM of CAPELESS HEROs who work at Countesthorpe Medical Center for a brilliantly organised, clear, stress-free, Coronavirus safe experience when getting my flu jab today. The whole situation was well staffed with friendly team members from admin to nurses & doctors, all wearing PPE, following social distancing rules, as well as clearly marked visual prompts in order to provide this safe 'out of hours' vital service to the most sensitive members of our community. THANK YOU.

Both my wife and myself have been with this practice since Dr Hoffler’s days. We have always had fantastic service , both with the Doctors and Nurses, and the practice in general. When appointments have been requested the practice receptionists have always tried to accommodate us.
I have heard from others ,of terrible times at other Doctors surgery’s, and we are very grateful of being with Countesthorpe Health Practice. Cannot praise them enough .
