Located in the heart of the Isle of Oxney near Rye, we are a traditional, yet modern country inn situated just a couple of miles from the coast. Our home cooked meals are created using local produce and the freshest fruits and vegetables grown in our very own veg patch. We have an exotic range of wines and beers that come from as far afield as Argentina to as local as 5 minutes down the road! Considering what to drink with your meal? The Ferry Inn are proud to offer guests a wide range of wines and beers to complement the varied food menu.
Services
Paul's family have lived in Stone since the First World War and is only one of a few families who can say that. Having run a number of successful companies he originally bought The Ferry Inn in the 1980's. Wally Milstead who had been the Landlord at The Ferry Inn for more than 30 years continued to run it until his retirement in 2003.
The Ferry Inn was built in 1690 to refresh and accommodate the travellers who would then cross over the outlet of the River Rother to the mainland! The existing narrow watercourse you see today is called the 'Reading Street Sewer' (or ditch, or dyke) and is the Southern edge of the Old Rother, which was up to a quarter of a mile wide in parts at the time.
With views overlooking The Romney Marsh, Sue and Martyn Brignall at Mackley Farm supply campers (and the locals!) with fresh eggs and vegetables. Galloping has become a trendy alternative to camping and no one does it better than at Waypost Farm where Sam and Leon Coates have converted an old shepherd's hut and horse box fit for royalty.
From Tenterden, go down the Appledore Road (B2080) towards Rye. About half a mile after you have passed through series of sharp bends and a half a mile before you reach Appledore, there is a crossroads. The Ferry is signposted, so turn right towards Stone and Wittersham and the Ferry is about 2 miles along, a mile before Stone village.
Looking for a great place to eat in town? Drop by at The Ferry Inn to enjoy delicious food in a friendly atmosphere. The Ferry Inn is a quaint pub which is a great spot to spend quality time with your loved ones or by yourself and enjoy the best fish in Tenterden. You can enjoy a variety of mouth-watering seafood dishes prepared by top of the line chefs using ingredients that are freshly procured on a regular basis from local vendors.

Very pretty country pub situated, between Ashford and Rye. Idyllic views to be seen in the day and at sunset. Lovely Sunday menu with very generous portions as well. Definitely revisiting in the future.

It's so nice to go to a pub that really offers both exceptional food and wonderful service. The guinea fowl was sublime and my partners home-made steak and ale pie was to die for. The sticky toffee pudding was so light yet full of flavour. The service from Sam and George who managed to look after a pretty packed pub (full on a Tuesday lunchtime speaks volumes) was excellent. Both friendly and efficient. I can't recommend the Ferry highly enough, and the only reason that there is no photographic evidence to accompany this review is because we scoffed the lot before we had time to think about it

Visited along side my family and we were completely satisfied with how great of an experience we all had. The food for a start was exceptional, the scallops and mussels went down a treat! And the sharing platter was more than enough between two people. The staff were so friendly and helpful, that’s including the pub dog who is lovely. The atmosphere and decor was charming and casual, the location was really good. Close to many attractions such as a few vineyards which we had visited prior.

Cannot speak highly enough of The Ferry Inn today - lovely, attentive staff, nothing was too much trouble.
And as for the adorable, immaculately behaved, chocolate Pub lab Poppy, who waited at (well, by) our table…. Such a treat of an afternoon. So wish I had taken pix….
Absolutely delicious fresh fare, perfectly cooked and enjoyed right next to the water. Shall certainly be returning sometime very soon. Thank you Ferry Inn, you did us proud.🎉

Excellent! The burger inside a wrap was delicious and a twist on the usual thing you would expect. My wife had the seafood pasta which was great. The bread and cheese starter was really tasty. Great latte in high glass cups and brownie and ice cream. The service was also top notch, always checking on us without being too much, great tone and care. And in the sun the setting was lovely and with little wind on the outside tables.

Food was way above your standard pub food! Also great veggie selections on the menu.
Highly recommend.

Lovely staff, good beer on tap. The food was wonderful. One of the best burgers (great wraps instead of buns) I’ve had and the starter had delicious kidney which you can’t find often/ever.

Great food, way above usual pub food, with a lot of options. We had melted Camembert, escallops and rib eye steak, simply delicious. Quick and efficient service, and a friendly dog! Wouldn’t hesitate to come back.

A friend brought us here for a nice afternoon lunch while visiting.
It is a great little restaurant in the english countryside.

We came on a beautiful summer day and were able to sit out side in the back lawn. It is really beautiful back there surrounded by farm land. We didn't see much of the inside of the restaurant but i do remember it was a very very old building that was quaint and cozy.

The staff was very helpful and like most english pubs you order you food and drink inside at the bar. There wasn't anything on the menu that didn't have meat in it so i asked the waitress

Lovely place for lunch on a summers day. Dogs welcome in beer garden and bar area. Food really good quality, reasonably priced. Staff very friendly, our orders seemed to get forgotten but bar staff apologised for delay and we were happy with meals when they came. Car park opposite which is free and has lots of spaces.

This is a fantastic local English Pub that serves great food, large portions and a diverse menu. Its not your usual reheated pie type pub which makes a welcome change from many places these days. They do themed days and evening meals as well if you want something a little different.

The bar and restaurant staff are superb in The Ferry inn and really make you feel welcome, even when you have a few youngsters in tow.

It can get busy some days so its best to reserve a table, but I thoroughly recommend this pub if you want a decent meal, in a lovely location with a great selection of bitters
