The Ship Inn
The Ship on Wheat Lane (once 'Wet Lane') in the ancient parish of Lathom is a local icon; known throughout West Lancashire as the 'Blood Tub' or just plain 'The Tub'. It was first a Public House at 4 Wheat Lane, expanding into numbers 6 and 8 in the 19th century, and latterly extended further in 1993.

The rather macabre 'Blood Tub' appellation comes with a choice of two legends - each supported by some compelling evidence! As a 'navigation' pub for workers on the canals and nearby 'graving dock' and then as a watering hole for competing canal boat crews, a certain amount of fisticuffs amongst the would-be clientele was not unusual.

Me and the family visited during the hottest day of the year and as such was probably their busiest day of the year.
Even so, the service was okay and the food was fantastic.
EDIT: Returned to The Ship this evening, another busy day but the service was still fantastic. The food was also brilliant and good value for the quality and service.

Already Heard A Lot That The Ship At Lathom Is Good So I Decided To Go
When Arriving The Building Itself Was Fantastic Very Traditional. I Ordered Haddock And Chips Only Thing That Was A Problem Was It Took A While
It’s Rather They Had A Bad Day Or Maybe A Bit Stressed So I Wont Nitpick Or Drop Stars Because Of It
Then It Arrived So The Chips
The Chips Were Meh Alright Not The Best Just Needs Some Seasoning
The Peas Were Just Like Mushy Peas
And The Fish Was Decent Not Much To Say
Overall It Was Good But Not The Best Still Enjoyed My Stay Though

Came here for a drive out with Mum just for a drink and some Lancashire Tapas (delicious) early afternoon. After having seen the menu it's a must to return to!! Very cosy directly beside the canal, great atmosphere and reasonable prices, very friendly and efficient staff. Loved it

I'd give more stars if I could! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Although we sat outside we had a very good experience from the staff and the food was exceptional. We had the steak pie and the Lancashire burger. Very recommend to visit.

Fantastic Gastro Pub set in the Lancashire countryside, just on the Leeds Liverpool Canal near Burscough.
Very friendly staff and lovely atmosphere.
We had a great "Lancashire Tapas" starter to share, Fish & Chips and Ship's Burger for main.
The Dark and White Brownie topped off a wonderful lunch in a picturesque location.

Amazing food! First time visit and I'd definitely go back! Fish of the day for main! Only downside was the vegan cheesecake that was a bit dense so couldn't finish it!
