We received an award from the John Hoppla society for our project work on the history of Llanhari over the past 80 years. The whole school worked on the project entitled 'Happy Birthday Mr Francis' and had to present their work to visiting assessors. Scott and Devon represented the school at the Council Chambers in Clydach.

Mrs Coates, Mrs Chadwick and Mrs Shipman made a presentation of the school's work at Cardiff University for the Catch Up National Conference. We were also presented with our Catch Up Excellence Award by Claire Rowlands, Deputy Director, Curriculum Division, Welsh Government. This week were were awarded a 'Catch Up Excellence Award' for our literacy intervention project by the national 'Catch Up' organisation.
Services
Here in Llanhari Primary School we aim to provide an inclusive, happy, authentic and stimulating learning environment for all pupils. We recognise that children may have additional learning needs either throughout, or at any time during their time at school. At Llanhari Primary Schoolwe plan with the pupils, ensuring that they are all able to access the full curriculum, experience challenge and receive ample opportunities to succeed.
The Governing Body are volunteers who aim to support and challenge the school on all issues of school improvement. The full governing body meets termly with the headteacher to review the schools current performance and celebrate its achievements. Smaller committees meet in between the full termly meetings to look at a range of issues such as finance, curriculum and Human Resources.
We have included a selection of materials available on the Learning Wales website for parents, to help prepare the children for the national tests held in May. Below are some of the sample materials available on the'Learning- Wales' website, to help prepare children for the new numerical reasoning tests in May.
The children from Reception to Year 6 were led by Members of the British Legion to the Memorial Garden. We had a similar service last year and we could not help but think that our memorial was a bit drab and not of a standard to commemorate such a great sacrifice. The school contacted a local artist, Becci Holmes and asked could she help the pupils design a mural that would be more fitting than the current concrete wall.
We had a fantastic day celebrating our Welsh culture. Every class performed a song and each class chose children to enter the recitation competition. There were also competitions for handwriting and art. It was a tight competition but in the end it was Glyndwr who came out top. Paige Howell won the special creative writing competition for writing a story about Llanharry.
