From 1887 to 1967 this building housed the photographic firm founded in 1869 by George Perry Abraham J.P., F.R.P.S., and continued by two of his sons George Dixon and Ashley Perry who were internationally known as mountain and landscape photographers and pioneer rock climbers. These celebrated 'Keswick brothers' made many first ascents at home and abroad and popularised the sport by their illustrated books and lectures.
At the heart of George Fisher is our legendary Boot Room, where generations have come from around the UK to have footwear fitted by our expert staff. All boot fitting is backed up by our correct fit guarantee. We offer an exchange on George Fisher purchased used junior boots. For the exchange we ask you to bring in the boots cleaned along with your original George Fisher receipt.

Fantastic customer service from the shop. So, whilst on holiday in the Lake District, after driving from Devon, I bought a Peter Storm rain jacket as it rained a lot! 2 months later the zip broke, so I contacted them via email. They resolved the situation super efficiently and I can't recommend them highly enough.

Difficult to review and give a rating in one go. On the one hand it’s a beautiful shop and if you need advice/fitting it’s hard to beat. They were amazing fitting boots for me. Top dollar, but the service justifies if you’re buying kit you need to rely on in the hills.
Tried the cafe today and was a bit put off by the experience. Staff and ambience terrific. Good coffee. I find it unacceptable however that prices for coffees and cakes are not displayed or on the menu. That’s especially true when you’re charging top of the market prices (it’s a free market so no issue with this in itself

The staff were really helpful and offered good advice and there was a good range of products. The products are expensive, however they seem to fall in the same price range as most other outdoor shops. The shop was quite well layed out however it seems the shop might be less accessible for those in a wheelchair.

Visited here to get some new walking boots fitted for my partner and myself and I honestly can't praise them enough. Both Lisa and Henry spent a lot of time with us and they were knowledgeable, patient and more importantly absolutely spot on.
A pair of boots each and a pair of trainers for good measure later and we're both happy.
Aside from that the store has an excellent choice of most things 'outdoors' you could need and a great bunch of staff to boot (no pun intended)

Well laid out store. Extensive stock ranges. Extremely knowledgeable staff. Travelled 200 miles to buy boots because I know from past experience that I would have a satisfactory experience. Special mention for Jacqui who found a superb pair of lightweight summer boots for my wife. Unhesitatingly recommend George Fisher, Keswick.

Great shop for all your outdoor gear shopped here for boots for years but this year they weren't as helpful as usual just wanted to make a sale and move on without trying to help me out as I wear orthotic insoles and needed more advice and help than I actually got.
However I did find a good, comfortable pair of boots

My cousin ordered the Hilleberg Allak 2 via the website using Apple Pay. £1025 was debited from the account.
He received an email saying the order had been cancelled by George Fisher. Customer services were contacted who could give no valid reason for cancelling the order nor any way to resolve it.
He is now waiting for £1025 refund which can take… up to 14 days and also without the tent.
I personally phoned the shop in Keswick to order this Allak 2 for my cousin as they are currently very difficult to find in the UK.
The gentlemen on the phone said to order it from the website

During our stay in Keswick I visited the shop looking for a new pair of walking trainers. I have a bunion on my left foot, so need a wide fit. I was served by Norman. He went the extra mile, with patience and a smile. He advised me and then stretched the perfect shoe to fit my foot in the right place. Two walks later, 15miles and 10 miles later I am singing his praises. No pain, no blisters. Thank you Norman. Brian Twist

Just wanted to drop a thanks to the team at the Keswich store. I spoke to many of them but wanted to give a special mention to Norman who went above and beyond in helping me choose a tent. His service was impeccable and it was clear he had deep experience and a genuine passion for the outdoors.
I ended up going with a Hilleberg Unna - I am so happy with it and was glad I didn't settle for anything less than the best when i was being snowed on in the Scottish highlands 😅

After 15 years my trustworthy, comfy and beloved walking boots had to be replaced. So off I trotted to George Fishers, and what a fabulous experience. I was greeted by Mark, who was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and above all patient. He wasn’t pushy allowed me to take my time and pampered to the fact I felt like I was replacing a faithful friend. Highly recommend this store. Once again you offered a truly customer based service. Thank you Mark you were fab. 🥾

Without doubt best outdoor shop in Keswick. I was after a pair of good quality walking boots and decided to get my feet properly measured and to try on a few different brands. The salesman was very helpful which I spent the best part of an hour trying different types of boots along various insoles. I ended up with a pair of Meindl Bhutan boots… which fit perfectly. It really is worth getting your feet properly measured because if I ordered these over the internet I would have ordered at least a half size too small. Really pleased with my purchase and the service I was provided. Really recommend

The shop is OK and the staff are helpful but if you are looking for something standard such as a jacket you can definitely get a better deal elsewhere, and lets face it keswick is full of such outlets. Apart from the clothing there is a good range of maps and books with a coffee shop on the top floor.

Famous Outdoor Shop in Keswick. Find it to be one for the tourists. Although the staff are friendly and helpful - you pay for it. It is definitely worth shopping about for the clothing and camping stuff. I was organising an overseas trip and needed some specialist bits and pieces, whilst I found them in there they were much more expensive than other places in town, never mind the internet. They have a nice selection of books on the third floor. They have a very good ski service - waxing and edging or full service. Very much a tourist institution - Harrods (of the outdoor world) in Keswick.

There's loads of stuff here but because it's so popular and busy I think the staff often don't have the time to really help, especially on boots and shoes. If you want specialist advice and information about what's best for whatever you're doing I'd try Needlesports or Cotswolds instead because the service is a bit more relaxed and personal.

A specialist outdoors shop, here they have a very wide range of equipment.
There are 2 floors of waterproofs, hiking boots, specialist walking gear, maps, books, DVDs and much much more.
The staff are very knowledgeable and as well as advising you on the best purchase for you, they will also offer you information on where you can go and try out your new equipment locally.
They have a large range of walking boots and even have pretend hills for you to walk up and down to ensure your fit is right!
They also have a cafe which offers a welcome rest from the cold outdoors.
