Services
Welcome to Peter Barnes Funerals, a family funeral director business with over 70 years of service to clients within Wisbech and its surrounding rural communities. Situated in the village of Murrow just outside of Wisbech, the business was founded in 1951 by the late Alfred Sidney Barnes.
Peter took over the business when his dad passed away in 1962 and has owned and managed the business ever since, assisted by his wife Sheila and more recently by his daughter Diane and son-in-law John Almey.Members of the National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors & National Association of Funeral Directors.

As a family run Independent Funeral Director we offer a friendly, caring and professional service. Our services to you start the moment you contact us and often extend way beyond the day of the funeral. On the initial contact we will ask for preliminary details, whereupon, if the deceased has died at home or in a nursing home we will arrange the necessary conveyance back to our Private Chapels of Rest.
A funeral plan is an easy way to pre-arrange the funeral you want and pay for the funeral director's services covered by the plan in advance. A plan can help to save your family worry and expense, and help make things easier for your loved ones at what is often a difficult time. As our customers often tell us, that can be a big weight off your mind.
During our meeting, we will guide you step by step through the process of arranging a funeral for your loved one. Below is a list of some of the questions we may well ask and discuss with you. Would you like your service to be conducted by a religious minister, a civil or a humanist? Would you like your loved one to wear their own clothing or for us to provide a coloured gown?
Contact your doctor (or the doctor on call) who will come to your home to certify the death. On occasions, if the death was expected and a nurse is present, the doctor may well give authority to the nurse to confirm the death. Once the doctor has attended or the nurse has certified, most families then prefer for their loved one to be conveyed to our chapels of rest as soon as possible.

We cannot thank enough Peter Barnes funerals for their professional and caring expedition of our fathers Funeral. They were caring, reassuring and sympathetic, taking the strain and pressure away from us both supportively and allowing us time to prepare for what is inevitably and emotional day.
The day went without a hitch and I do suspect that they even managed to arrange good weather. Thank you all again.
