Services
We have traced our company history back to 1868 when George Shaw ran a carpentry, building, wheelright and undertakers business from our premises in Hall Street, Soham. The first image to the right is of Hall Street in 1916. Originally there were two large thatched workshops. One survives and is still in use the other had deteriorated and was pulled down in the twenties.
Prior to 1868 and the formation of our company we know that a John Murfet was operating from this address as a wheelwright as he is mentioned in the Cambridgeshire Directory for 1847 and it is possible that George Shaw in some way took over his business.

In 1868 George Shaw started working from this address and advertised his services as a Funeral Director as well as doing the usual mix of other roles expected of a small country firm such as wheelwrights and builders. At this time outside of the largest cities it would have been very unusual for a company to have traded solely as a Funeral Director.
The C. E. Fuller behind the company name was Cecil Ernest Fuller who was the only son of Ernest & Florence Fuller. After attending the infants school he left the Shade Boys School when he around 13 and went to work for the W. H. Smith & Sons Book Stall on Soham Station delivering papers. When he about 15 he started an apprenticeship with his father for four years.
Each funeral is a unique event that should be tailored to the wishes and beliefs of the person who has died and the people arranging the funeral. For some this means a traditional funeral service at a local church while for others it means a simple and informal thanksgiving for the life of the deceased.
While many who have been cremated wish to be scattered in a place which had special memories for them there are still many others who wish to have a headstone or other memorial. We can select from a wide range of suitable memorials as well as vases and cremation plaques.

From several years experience we can provide advice on the requirements and regulations of the various cemeteries and churchyards in the area and, if required, suggest suitable memorials and wording.

Marie and her team were absolutely wonderful. From the moment we entered the building , I knew we were going to be dealing with a very genuine , thoughtful , caring family business.
Nothing was too much trouble.

We were very happy with the funeral service that Marie at Fuller's arranged. Everything was exactly as we wanted. When we first met to arrange the funeral, everything was explained clearly, nothing was hurried, there was no hard sell, and Marie was very friendly and helpful. The price was very competitive, all the costs were itemised, and there were no hidden extras to pay. We would definitely recommend Fuller's, based on our experience.
