The practice was originally set up in 1992 by Julian Davies and has expanded and grown in reputation consistently since then. Julian Davies Opticians was founded in 1992 When qualified Ophthalmic Optician (Optometrist), Dispensing Optician and contact lens specialist Julian Davies opened his first practice in the Pillgwenlly area of Newport. In the years that followed, Julian built up a large and loyal patient base built on the foundations of a great customer service and clinical excellence.
Following an extensive and rigorous selection process through Cardiff and Vale Health Board, in spring 2020 we were asked to deliver a specialist Glaucoma clinic on behalf of UHW. Our specialist optometrists conduct a battery of hospital grade examinations on patients sent to us by their Glaucoma consultant at UHW.
Aged 40 or over and are either a parent, brother, sister, son or daughter of a diagnosed glaucoma patient, or. Those whose sight test is carried out by a hospital eye department as part of the management of an optical condition. Patient or partner are in receipt of Income Support, Income-related Employment and Support Allowance, Income-based Jobseekers Allowance or Pension Credit Guarantee Credit.*.

I attended Julian Davies St Mellons branch today for a routine eye check .
I was extremely impressed by Sarah and her approach . She is professional yet friendly and explained the process in a calm and succinct way .
I felt the measures taken by this practice in response to the covid 19 pandemic went over and above what is expected . Anyone attending here should be reassured the safety of their customers and their staff is paramount to this practice .
No touch hand gel dispenser was available on entry and staff encouraged its use .
Social distancing is adhered to and the practice layout has
