Mac & Wild is a collection of Scottish Restaurants & Online Butcher committed to showcasing the incredible produce from the Scottish Highlands. Scotland is home. It's where we both grew up, and the warm Highland way of life is the constant inspiration for Mac & Wild. In the Highlands, most folk are closely connected to the land and the produce we gather from it.
Perhaps that's why many traditional farming practices have blessedly been preserved. You won't find industrialised animal practices here - animals are reared the 'right' way - on open pastures, with natural feed and without the use of any chemical nasties.

What we eat is a very personal decision. Therefore we encourage you to go for whatever you love most. That said we often get asked what we eat at home, what our favourite recipes and cuts of meat are. Below is what we are enjoying most right now. This is made up from personal preference combined with some things that seem to be extra popular with your fellow customers.
Our venison is the crown of Mac & Wild. All is sourced through Ardgay Game, Andy Waugh's (Mac & Wild co-founder) family Game Butchery business. The venison we use is 100% wild - born and hunted in the Highland wilderness where often the only time they see a human is the moment they are shot - if even then.
All our beef supplied through the Butcher comes from native breed Highlanders and Shorthorn cattle from Edinvale Farm in the Highlands. Native breeds are slow growing and require very little human intervention or feeding - within reason they look after themselves.
The cattle are fed exclusively on grasses and a foraged diet with any supplemented feeds needed being grown on the farm helping to support their progress towards being completely carbon neutral by 2024.This is the kind of farming practice Mac & Wild is all about championing - a harmonious ecosystem that looks after itself with lush feed for the animals to graze on year on year.

Chickens are a meat we have traditionally stayed away from both in restaurant and on the Butcher. We are wary of the commercial intensity of the industry. It's also very hard to source free range chickens from Scotland. However, when we set up our Butcher, we realised you really wanted chicken options.
We source all our lamb and mutton from Fearn Farm near Tain in the Highlands. Born and raised at Fearn, the sheep live on a pasture based diet of grasses and foraged crops such as hay and turnips that are all grown on the farm, minimising their carbon footprint and helping maintain a balanced ecosystem.

My bother and I both ordered the burger kits as Christmas presents for family members and they arrived a day late. We never received emails to inform us that the orders would be late. We had to contact mac & wild to find out what was happening. Terrible service although the burgers were tasty when they eventually arrived.

Sooooo disappointing!! Ordered the kit for home delivery, cocktails and bacon were missing, didn't get an email until a day after delivery, with a discount voucher(!!) Sadly - bottom line is that this wasn't a… restaurant kit - there was no seasoning, no pre-made tasty bits, no relishes, no condiments - so essentially what you get in the box is good quality but same as you could buy from the supermarket - patties, buns, bacon (if you're lucky!), lettuce, onion, cheese...

Having seen the great email campaigns and online presence these guys have...was really looking forward to great Scottish food in a heady atmosphere of heather and whisky and Scottish hospitality.
The sleek advertising and beautiful glossy imagery of the Mac & wild’s digital presence ...started to melt away at the front door. We were booked in for… lunch today ( 12 feb 2020 )..a Wednesday afternoon so it wasn’t overly busy Although still had to wait about 5 mins for someone to acknowledge our presence.

So...this place is not Devonshire. There are stark differences between the professionalism you will find here and the sister location in Devonshire. Here, the service was scattered and confused. We ordered our starters and mains together, but didn't receive our main course until after requesting it...nearly 15 minutes after finishing our food and drinks.
The food was good, but the expediency of our service was less than impressive. Between the time it took for us to receive our mains and the time to finally get our checks, we were hungry again. From Monday - Saturday, I'm sure this

I was very excited to try Mac and Wild as I had heard great things, however I was underwhelmed. I found the menu to be a bit small/gamey, so I ordered the Venimoo burger. The patties were so thin and dry, and the burger overall lacked flavor. I also ordered a side of chips (fries), but found they were extremely average. I will not be returning.

I don't understand!!! The Venimoo burger was voted best in London??? How?? It was dry, fairly flavourless and the bun was too thick. The chips were fair and the sticky toffee pudding tasted burnt and terrible. The service was excellent hence the 2 stars - super friendly and accommodating. Very disappointing!

We went for an impromptu Sunday roast lunch and enjoyed it.
I had the pork belly roast, and my bf had the venison roast. Both dishes were solid -- great Yorkshire pudding and vegetables all around.
Service was very good as well. The waitress was prompt in seating us and bringing everything out.
I quite liked the ambience. Cosy but hipster, it was the kind of place I wouldn't have expected on the street it's on, but perfect for a casual lunch of roast or burger or steak

It was my first attempt with venison and it was great. The tartre was juicy, the steak perfectly cooked. Too bad the chips were just ordinary, and the mousse dessert a bit lackluster.
My friend had the venison scotch egg and skinny venni burger and they were also suberb.
Would definitly recommend to newcomers to game and venison lovers alike.

I had high expectations for Mac and Wild, but I'm not sure that they were met to be honest. The restaurant itself has a lovely ambiance; good for a date or just catching up with a friend. The service was good as well. The servers were friendly and attentive. So why was I disappointed with Mac and Wild? The Venimoo burger! I'm unsure who voted the Venimoo as London's Best Burger 2016 because it's not even close to being in the top 10 burgers I've had in London. My burger was literally cold, not just room temperature, but actually cold. It might just be me, but something

Like the name suggests, Mac and Wild, a Scottish-inspired culinary adventure, is quite wild - in a good way! Known for their delicious venison dishes, as well as their fresh take on the classic beef burger, Mac and Wild presents traditional Scottish food in a modern manner. According to their menu, all their venison is wild, and hunted on the mountaintops of Ardgay, while their produce and other ingredients are mostly locally sourced.
My friend and I stopped by Mac and Wild for a late lunch and we were pleasantly surprised at the service and restaurant design. The distressed wood tabletops add

We've been here 3 or 4 times now, and had consistently excellent experiences. It's pricier than we normally would go with (although roughly in line with averages in this pricey bit of London), but it's rather good value for money.
The haggis pops (deep fried bites of this oft-maligned delicacy), grouse terrine and scotch egg are excellent appetizers. We've had the venison and beef chateaubriand each time for mains, and both are always excellent. All the sides--especially the haggis mac n' cheese--are great. On our latest visit, we also tried desserts for the first time

It's rare for me in London these days to stumble across something totally new and unheard of but this is exactly what happened to me last night.
En-route from one over crowded, over popular West End bar to another potentially over crowded, over popular West End bar I literally stumbled across this place with a friend.
The unassuming façade could easily have been missed and if I had not been paying attention to the HUGE Scotch Egg that was being presented to one set of the diners outside, I would have done just that, missed it.
Fate.

I really wanted to love Mac & Wild. I had been looking forward to it, and I probably had much too high expectations, but it just didn't hit the spot.
The venison was ok, although not a patch on what you get in most restaurants in the highlands, and nothing special. Same goes for the cocktails. The gravadlax starter wasn't very flavorsome, which I'd definitely expect from Scottish salmon, and just ended up being disappointing and unappetising. I might have just gone on the wrong evening, but it was a pretty expensive wrong evening.
