The George Hotel
The George Hotel is a 17th Century townhouse enjoying a spectacular location nestling on the water's edge between the castle and pier in the bustling harbour town of Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight. This magnificent building is steeped in history and was once home to the most noteworthy of the Island's Governors, Sir Robert Holmes who often entertained King Charles II.

The George, under the ownership of London nightclub impresario, Howard Spooner (whose club creations include The Leopard Lounge, Crazy Larry's, Embargo, Public and The Clapham Grand), has undergone an extensive refurbishment. The stunning Italian-inspired beachfront garden, with historic olive trees and driftwood clad beach bar is the hotspot on the Solent - serving up to 600 covers a day.
Services
Whether you've spent the day exploring the Isle of Wight, walking the coastal path, or simply relaxing with the papers, it's lovely to come back to a comfortable room at the end of the day. Many have spectacular sea or harbour views - wake up to the gentle lapping of the sea on our shingle beach! The hotel still embraces the charm and welcome of old alongside a beautifully restored interior.
The Conservatory is a family friendly brasserie style restaurant with a light airy interior and uninterrupted views of the Solent. The food here is fabulously unfussy and dishes are created and cooked from the wonderful natural Isle of Wight larder.

Our beach bar, comes complete with comfy seating, heaters, an outdoor kitchen serving delicious food - perfect for enjoying the hotel's co-branded Aix Methuselah (that's a 6 litre bottle in case you were unsure!) of rose whilst listening to some cool vibes with breathtaking sea views. While away a few hours under an umbrella watching the sail boats zip past or dine by the seawall looking out across the small shingle beach and the sea beyond.
Wake up in our 17th century historic house with breathtaking sea views, the smell of pine needles from our magnificent twinkling tree, delicious seasonal menus and a cellar full of fine wines and sparkling delights! Delicious seasonal menus will be online nearer the time - and our events team will be ready to help create the perfect celebration.
We'll be decking the halls and The George will be dressed to impress from mid-November. Whether it's a sparkling party, a celebration with friends and family or a festive knees up and head to The George! We visited the George for the second time this weekend and can't rave enough about the improvements.
The George is conveniently located just two hours from London via train and a short ferry crossing over the Solent to the harbour town of Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight. It is an ideal venue for small executive meetings and events that require a discreet tranquil location. We have a range of flexible spaces that can cater from 2 to 150.

Second stay in two weeks...this must say something.
In winter months the fire stets the scene in the bar for relaxing with family and friends.
Rooms are clean and comfortable, staff helpful and the restaurant delivers
Will we be back? I would be very surprised if we are not
Thank you to all

Hi
Mostly our stay was nice but it was really ruined by the room.
The food was great though would have liked to see a bit more in terms of veggie options and we were a bit surprised by cost of bread. The restaurant service was fine. The bar was great.
The room was nice enough but when we arrived the radiator did not work, it was freezing. When we went to dinner the receptionist managed to turn it on but once on it was stuck on full. This made for a very hot night even with windows open. As a result of heat and noise from outside we did not manage much sleep unfortunately.

A wonderfully atmospheric hotel steeped in history and surrounded by the picturesque town. Food is fantastic. Rooms could do with some updating but still a high standard.

We had the most wonderful stay at The George. We were kindly given an upgrade to a fabulous room with a terrace overlooking the sea and enjoyed every minute. The service was excellent and the food at dinner was utterly delicious. We left feeling so relaxed after just 24 hours, that it was as if we had been away for a whole week! It was a treat from start to finish.

We really enjoyed our stay at The George this weekend. The hotel and location were perfect, and the garden was so lovely to enjoy even at this time of year. The staff were brilliant, we couldn't fault anyone in any way, they were all so helpful, polite and friendly (especially Miguel) and great with our our two daughters.
After seeing the recent food hygiene rating we were a bit dubious before we came, however we instantly felt reassured as soon as we got in the hotel. Everything/where was impeccable (especially what we could also see of the kitchen too), the food was delicious for dinner and

We’re regulars to Yarmouth as we sail there, but have never stayed in The George until last weekend. What a gem! An historic and beautiful hotel that feels very relaxed and very natural in all respects. The staff made us feel extremely welcome and couldn’t do enough to make our experience great. I’m Coeliac and was extremely well catered for by knowledgeable and really helpful staff, who clearly take pride in what they do. We have a dog who was made very welcome and allowed to stay there with us. We will most definitely be back. Thank you for a lovely short stay!

Great weekend at the George. Comfy room, spacious, lovely ambiance and location.
Well greeted and bar is brilliant for a cozy drink. Kids were able to relax.
Room for improvement - the breakfast options could be developed. Kids normally have pancakes or scrambled eggs. The options were quite limited.
There is a sign outside the prestige room we were in (room 17) that banged all night so we didn’t really sleep. We told the hotel receptionist.

My wife and I had a very enjoyable 2 day stay at the George this week. We were in room 27 which is on the top floor and furthest from the stairs. Its quite hike for people in their seventies. The room was comfortable but it has a small high window and is perhaps not worthy of the room rate of the other classic rooms.
We had a great welcome from the receptionist who carried our bags upstairs. She was excellent throughout.
We only used the restaurant for breakfast. This was first class, very good buffet and delicious cooked breakfast. The restaurant staff were very courteous and efficient. The

We had an absolutely great stay at The George. The greeting was top notch from the receptionist and this customer service carried on throughout the hotel from all the staff.
It’s quite a young team in the bar and restaurant but all were easy to chat to and so friendly - nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast, dinner and afternoon pizzas were all lovely, highly recommend the food.
We had room 15 which had a terrace overlooking the garden and sea, we were unlucky with the weather so couldn’t make full use of it during our stay, very clean room, bed was extremely comfortable, bed linen
