Gleneagles is to be found on the elegant Clifftown Parade within an area steeped in Victorian architecture and history. The completion of the London-Tilbury-Southend railway in 1856 provided the impetus for some fine larger scale housing development in Southend and acclaimed English Architects Charles Barry Jr. and Robert Richardson Banks designed the 'Cliff Town' Estate.

We didn’t stay here but we used the tea room. Walked past many times and always wanted to try. How very disappointing it was. First we way over charged and the young lad couldn’t see how. Obviously put in to many items. Then we had to wait a while for our food and drinks to see the table who came after us get served first. Our tea cakes arrived but still no tea. We waited a while until we had to go ask where it was. How deceiving looks can be probably won’t come back

We arrived prior to check-in time but we were allowed to drop our bags before we went for a walk of discovery. We really liked the room, it was really clean, they provided fresh towels and the view was amazing (Pier Room). The location of the hotel was just right, it wasn't far from the beach but the noise from traffic did not reach us. Just perfect. We really enjoyed the breakfast the next morning (Full English Breakfast). The staff was really friendly, everything was smooth.

Gleneagles has a relaxed and informal air, which we appreciated. The suite was charming and had a sea view, the bed was comfortable and the en-suite was functional and convenient. Breakfast was delicious, though inconsistent across the three mornings we were there. All in all, charming and would return.
