Windermere Steamboats & Museum is located on a former sand wharf site where, for many years, barges unloaded gravel dredged from the bed of the lake. When this operation ceased in 1975, the Windermere Nautical Trust acquired the use of the site and the Museum was built in 1976-77 with the help of The Maritime Trust and the English Tourist Board.

A warm welcome in fact the Christmas was being decorated. The bedroom was very comfortable and very clean and it had character, wasn't expecting the four poster bed. The breakfast was excellent and served with a smile and in a pleasant manner by the waitress. The dogs were also looked after and were given the run of the lounge.

We have just spent a week at Ivy Guest House a return visit as we were so impressed last year. Set in the heart of this beautiful village with such stunning scenery on the doorstep. Darren and Roz are excellent hosts nothing is too much trouble. Our room was spotless with a lovely old four poster bed. Breakfast in the morning is superb cooked fresh by Darren and served by Heather who is an absolute star! We were sorry to come home. Only criticism just wish it was closer so we could visit more often.
