Services
We have 9 male alpacas at Tregathenan. They graze happily in either of our 2 main fields above and below the House and Cottages. They range in age between 2 and 17! Some are huycaya alpacas and some are suri alpacas (the ones with the 'dreadlocks'). They have their main feed fed once/day in the late afternoon, and guests are welcome to come and watch the organised chaos which results from trying to get 9 boys to all eat nicely at the same time!
Tregathenan sits between two of the most stunningly beautiful areas of Cornwall - the Land's End peninsula and the Lizard peninsula, which includes an area designated SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) and an AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). The Cornish countryside is diverse with its mix of coast and rural; its industrial and cultural heritage and its unique flora and fauna.
Here are some suggestions for days out that are car-free, or which minimise the use of the car. For a bit of fun, we have graded each suggestion depending on how 'green' each activity is, where 10 green points is the best! Why not see how many points you can collect during your stay?
Visit the restoration work on the Helston to Redruth railway line at Trevarno Farm - volunteers have restored a couple of miles of track and have a shop, information carriage, and some rolling stock.You can walk there from Tregathenan - there is a 3 mile circular walk provided in your cottage. Alternatively, you can just walk straight to the railway (approx half a mile).

Tregathenan House and Cottages are situated between Coverack Bridges and Crowntown about 3 miles North of the historic market town of Helston. After another mile look out for some black and white roadside posts on the right, then a white cottage TREGATHENAN COTTAGE with our board alongside it.
Turn right alongside Tregathenan Cottage (signed PUBLIC BRIDLEWAY), and take the second gateway on the right for Tregathenan House (approximately 150 yards up the tarmac), and the third gateway on the right for the Granary, Long Barn and Hayloft Cottages.Just after passing the Helston town welcome board turn right at the double mini roundabout onto B3297 REDRUTH.

Owners are friendly and unintrusive. Plenty of places to roam. We stayed in the Hayloft. We arrived to find a cream tea waiting for us and some fresh flowers on the table. There was also a carton of eggs on the side and some milk in the fridge. Despite the age of the building, it is well presented/furnished and adequately equipped. Clear instructions were provided for arrival and departure etc. Each property appears to have its own wireless router, seemingly on a double NAT setup - works as well as you could expect. The farm isn't on a main road, so expect to have to navigate cornish country lanes

Spent a week in the Long Barn at Tregathenan house and cottages, Quiet location in the glorious contryside, but also very close to Cornish spectacular coastline and quaint coastal villages.
Amazing hosts Liz and Ian, full of recomendations of places to visit and sights to see.
Sparkly clean accomodation with the added bonus of flowers, eggs and milk on arrival.
Highly recommend a stay here (but please do not book the week we will be revisiting). Many Thanks for a great week.

We had such a wonderful week in The Long Barn. Ian and Liz were very helpful and followed covid regulations to the letter, the barn was spotless and I was very relaxed in regard to this. The location was perfect and the slogan "away from it all, in the middle of it all", really sums the location up, with everywhere we wanted to visit within a short drive. My favourite thing were the lovely alpacas, we are looking forward to returning in 2021

We spent a week in the Hayloft cottage and had an amazing time. We got a warm welcome from Ian the owner. There were scones with cream and jam waiting for us in in the fridge and some lovely flowers on the table. There's a little playhouse for kids, which was very popular with our two little ones. You can also borrow some beach stuff so no need spending on body boards or bringing your own buckets and spades. The cottages are local to the shops, beaches and entertainment and many more fabulous places. If you're after a relaxing holiday, this is the place for you.
