Taking your driving theory test is a really important step in learning to drive, there are many books and online tools to help you prepare for your test. The theory test has two parts. The first part consists of 50 multiple-choice questions, chosen at random from a bank of over 1,000. You are given 57 minutes and you must answer at least 43 of the 50 questions correctly.
With all the excitement of getting behind the wheel of a car, it can be all too easy to overlook the importance of the theory test. It may not be glamorous, but your theory test is equally as important as your practical test. We've put together a quick guide to answer the common questions we're asked, putting you in pole position to pass the first time around!
You can apply for your provisional licence up to 3 months prior to your 17th birthday by completing a D1 form either online (DVLA) or by collecting one from the post office. The cost is 34. You can start your lessons on your 17th birthday. The DVLA say on average 35/45 hours of professional instruction accompanied by private practice.

I was very pleased with John’s training in my CBT today. He helped me to understand areas to improve in a constructive manner that gave me confidence to progress out on the road. John also gave me the confidence to try a bigger bike despite me only ever riding classic type geared scooters before the day. I feel confident to progress to my full bike licence with Johns help.

I took my CBT with John in April, having never been on a motorbike before. I enjoyed being out riding that day, and having seen John was a competent teacher, I booked in a couple of lessons on a larger bike (Bandit 600). In total I took 6 lessons before my MOD1, and another 2 before my MOD2 (plus riding to the test centre on the day). John is an experienced rider and instructor and knows the DAS course inside out. He was good at picking up on my faults when out riding and making sure that these were addressed – exactly what you want from a teacher. He was able to tell me what other students in

Jan has been an amazing driving instructor. She is so lovely to talk to and so calming to drive with which is very helpful as a first time driver.
