AJM Transport Training was established in 1997 and we are located in Birkenhead, Merseyside, near Liverpool city center in the North West of England. The terms HGV (Heavy goods vehicle) and LGV (Large goods vehicle) can be a bit misleading! We can also offer a short residential course for pupils with our depot only a short distance from Liverpool, Chester, and North Wales.
We recommend a local B+B only 5 minutes away from our depot. We operate trucks with automatic gearboxes for Category C (class 2) and C+E (class 1) LGV/HGV driver training. You will still obtain a full manual LGV licence as long as you hold a manual car licence when you pass. The majority of haulage companies are now operating automatic trucks.

Services
Before you can book an LGV Category C or C1 Driving Course, you first need to obtain your LGV Provisional Licence and pass your LGV Theory Test, Multiple Choice and Hazard Perception Test and also possibly the CPC Case Study, if required. Whilst you are waiting for your licence to return, begin studying for your LGV theory test & hazard perception test.
Most people refer to this entitlement as "Grandfather Rights" or in official circles as "Acquired Rights" to drive a vehicle with a GVW of up to 7.5 Tonnes. The category is referred to as C1, it is a sub category of the Class C LGV driving entitlement. Upon passing an official DSA C1 Driving Test you will have the right to drive this category of vehicle.
If you have an queries about the courses that we offer or would like to make an appointment to have a chat at our Depot then please do not hesitate to get in touch. You can use the form on the right to send us a message and your contact details and we will quickly reply. Or you can use the details below to contact us.
You could have the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence ( CPC ) through 'acquired rights' if you're already a professional lorry, bus or coach driver. This means that because you've already been working as a lorry or bus driver, your experience is counted as the same as taking the Driver CPC initial qualification.

Thankyou Tony for being a great instructor to me whilst on my C1 course! I have learnt so much about how to be a safer, more efficient driver and will take on board everything I have learnt with me into my new role as a paramedic. Managed to get me a first time pass in 3 days! I cannot thank you enough for your patience, I know I tested it quite a few times! All the best 👍🚑

Managed a first time pass with Tony in just 3 days. Great value tuition and a knowledgeable instructor who will give you the skills and knowledge you need to pass your test. If you’re open minded and take onboard the feedback and advise he gives, you’ll fly through your test. Even managed a “Good Drive” comment from the examiner. Absolutely over the moon. Cheers Tony, all the best 😉
