Services
Dominic has been training with weights for nearly 35 years and has seen the coming and going of many a diet and training fad! Dominic started going to the gym at the age of 19. He soon began to develop his own training methods after questioning the effectiveness of some of the accepted training practices of the day.
Dom's Private Gym has offered personal training services since 1993. We provide individually tailored weight training programmes and dietary advice to help people achieve their personal health and fitness goals. Here are a few of our success stories! Proof that it's never too late to make a difference to your lifestyle and improve your health and wellbeing.
Suggest to someone they need to start training to lose weight and they immediately think of endless hours on treadmills or exercise bikes. The virtues and values of aerobics as the way to exercise have been extolled and universally celebrated for years. The health benefits of weight training meanwhile, have been marginalised to that of the bodybuilder and improving sports performance.
Basically, to reduce fat and lose weight you need to consume fewer calories than your body needs to maintain weight. It is a common mistake to think skipping meals is an effective way of reducing calories and achieving weight loss. In fact, quite the opposite! Missing meals reduces your metabolic rate and allows blood sugar levels to drop.
If your goal is to gain weight and increase strength, you need to eat the right foods at the right time. We recommend that you eat 5-6 meals throughout the day. Your body can only handle a certain amount of nutrients in any one meal. You'll therefore, gain fat rather than muscle if you try to cram all your food into two or three meals.
