Services
The beautiful Bute Court, now renamed the Marquis Hotel, was built for the 3rd Marquis of Bute as a summer residence in the 19th century. Still having many of the original features it was converted to a fine hotel around 1920 which includes superb sea views. The original brochure for the hotel states that "all rooms are lit by electricity" but "visitors using bedrooms as sitting rooms will be charged 2/- extra per week for light".
All of our bedrooms have all the amenities you require including tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryers, flat screen TV's and Wi-Fi. All rooms are also equipped with refurbished en-suite bathroom or shower rooms. A choice of Standard, Garden View or Sea Facing accommodation available in either single, double, twin or family rooms.
Relax in our Restaurant and lounge, read the papers and enjoy one of the best views of the Bay - stunning whatever the weather! You won't want to leave! Please call 01803 213055 or email reception@marquishotel.co.uk to enquire about our great packages. We can accomodate any type of function including wedding receptions, chrsitenings, funeral wakes, engagement parties and more.
We have a number of on-site and off-site leisure facilities on hand for you to enjoy throughout your stay with us. The public tennis courts and indoor swimming pool/leisure centre are situated within easy walking distance of the hotel. There are also 2 bowling greens, Crazy Golf for the children and 'young at heart' & Pitch & Putt.
Read a book in our stylish lobby area or catch up with the latest news using our free WiFi. Excellent stay, the recent renovations (touch more to do yet), are based on quality especially the en-suite facilities. Torquay hotels need such bringing in to the 21st century. Staff were customer friendly as was the price, room etc.spotless and breakfast excellent.

Booked online due to it being on multiple sites for reservations, came to the day and we turned up and slowly realised it’s closed down. Luckily they didn’t take my money but to not have that it’s closed down on any sites is really bad and misjudging. You could of ruined my holiday but luckily I booked somewhere else. Please don’t go here and be let down let us!

Chose hotel for location and price. In November it’s like Marie Celeste - deserted, but plenty of space to park with entrance unusually round the back. All looks a little tatty, but staff try to please and are friendly.
However, walls in rooms on ground floor are paper thin and couple next door had a party at 2.30am and a row at 7.30am, so didn’t sleep well. No staff to stop them so l had to.
Despite reasonable price and dodgy WiFi, l wouldn’t stay here again.

Stayed here with a coach party for 4 days half board. Rooms serviced every day, all the staff very friendly and nothing to much trouble. Good choice at breakfast and lovely 3 course dinner every night. Had a nice refurbished bathroom. Was a really cold week but had a convector heater which kept room nice and toasty. Would definitely stay again a lovely quirky hotel.

The key thing here is you get what you pay for. It’s certainly one of the cheaper establishments in such a busy tourist spot. Location is great, room size is small but acceptable. The whole building is dated and it’s such a shame nothing is done about the ample-sized terrace area or the bizarre neglected “garden” area. Both would be incredible facilities if they were made use of. Bar the one eager-to-please gentleman, the staff seemed inexperienced and not bothered. The breakfast selection is very small, but decent quality considering the price.

What a surprise. At the low cost my expectations weren't high, but I was pleasantly surprised. My single room was very clean and well appointed. Toiletries, hairdryer, plenty of tea etc.Nice breakfast in a dining room with a lovely view. Staff service was excellent, friendly and helpful. I often stay in chain budget hotels when working: this was cheaper and better.
