Funeral care has been in our family since the 18th century. It was in 1790, when the founder of the business, John Turnbull, began work as a cabinetmaker and undertaker on the quayside at North Shields. It is still an independent, completely family owned and run funeral directors. Jane Broadhead (nee Turnbull) is the sole owner.
Our staff comprise family members and hand-picked employees. Each member of staff has the experience and training to take care of your personal funeral arrangements, whatever your situation and needs. We understand that the passing of a loved one is a hugely stressful time and so we take the time to listen carefully and advise accordingly.

Back then, it was horses that provided the transport for the hearses and E Turnbull & Son Ltd also operated as successful coachbuilders and livery owners.
We are now pleased to say we have been able to install a custom made "hygiene screen" which separates passengers and the driver for mutual safety. Every vehicle is maintained to a very high standard and offers flawless transport for all styles of funeral. For many people, the first choice of funeral vehicle is a traditional hearse.
Our warm and welcoming funeral care premises are conveniently located at the centre of North Shields on Albion Road, where customers can visit at any time. Turnbulls is a place of respect and professionalism, yet we also want you to feel relaxed and at home in the surroundings. We believe we have the balance just right after being in the funeral business for hundreds of years.
