Services
J.J. Burgess & Sons was founded as Funeral Directors in 1839 by James Burgess, however the family's business roots in the Hatfield community can be traced to 1700 when the family were clock makers, beehive makers and timber dealers. The family business of Funeral Directors was passed through the generations and has developed through the years to the business that it is today.
The thought of arranging a funeral is not something any of us would want to do, this together with the distress and emotional upset leaves you completely disorientated and unsure of what to do next. It is exactly this situation that our funeral arrangers have been trained to understand and cope with.
When a loved-one dies it is quite normal for the family to contact a local funeral director. We offer a 24 hour telephone service 365 days of the year to provide advice and comfort at this difficult time. You will deal with a member of the Burgess family who will be able to help and offer you compassion.
There is no legal requirement to have a religious funeral. As religion plays a less important role in peoples lives it is becoming common for people to opt for a non-religious humanist ceremony. A humanist funeral enables family and friends to share the loss of a loved-one as well as celebrate their life and the impact they had on family and friends.
Green, or natural burial is a way of caring for the dead with minimal environmental impact that aids in the conservation of natural resources, reduction of carbon emissions, protection of worker health, and the restoration and/or preservation of habitat. Green burial necessitates the use of non-toxic and biodegradable materials, such as caskets, shrouds, and urns.
