Services
A 400-year-old pub situated in the heart of Burcot, Oxfordshire, The Chequers is steeped in history and has many stories to tell. The building seems to be of 16th century origin and is traditionally held to have been an Inn for farm labourers, servants, and river workers travelling up the Thames selling their wares.
Using locally sourced fresh ingredients, where possible, award winning head-chef Steven Sanderson has created a menu that caters for everyone. From our ever popular Sunday roasts where friends and family meet and socialise, to our sharing boards and dessert. Please note breakfast is currently only available in the restaurant Saturday and Sunday, 8am - 10am.
Using locally sourced fresh ingredients, where possible, award winning Chef-Owner Steven Sanderson has created a menu that caters for everyone. His ability to create home-comfort food with a modern twist is evident throughout the ever-evolving menu. He is guided by the seasons and he procures only the best produce available for his imaginative dishes.
Enjoy beers, wines, spirits, gins and cocktails - drinks to complement your meal or enjoy on their own with friends, family and work colleagues. We have a range of both white and red wines together with sparkling Prosecco and Champagne and Ros. One of Steve's favourite expressions when talking about the restaurant is "putting the fun back on the plate".
The accommodation at The Chequers at Burcot offers a touch of boutique hotel luxury in the surrounds of the beautiful South Oxfordshire countryside. Nestled in the hamlet of Burcot, Abingdon and a stone's throw from the River Thames, our accommodation is the perfect location from which you can enjoy the delights of nearby historic towns including Dorchester on Thames, Abingdon, Wallingford, Oxford, the Cotswolds and beyond.

The chequers was a real find. They kindly squeezed us in at short notice and Maddy and the team looked after us very well. The food was excellent and the service was very attentive. I'd recommend the scotch eggs and the steaks.

Absolutely rude staff. Booked a big party for 12:30 in the restaurant. They initially said we could have the room for three hours. Days before they swapped it to two and half hours. Then they said we had booked for 12:00 even though we had proof we'd booked for 12:30. We'd barely finished our mains before they told us there was no time for dessert. We hadn't even had the two and a half hours. They threw us out after two. Incredibly rude manager who was incredibly unhelpful and antagonised many of our party. We won't be coming back. And anyone thinking of booking big tables with them for Christmas

Wonderful roast dinner, literally one of the best I've had. Lemon meringue dessert was undercooked and melted on the plate but was edible. Great wine selection too.

Absolutely gorgeous accommodation, sleek and modern, fridge had milk ready for us to use, tea and a coffee machine. Very clean and everything you need for a night away.
The food was amazing, beautifully presented and nothing was too much trouble. The chef even made me mint sauce from scratch and it was divine.
Highly recommended and we will definitely be returning.
