I am often asked if I work with a specific type of "problem" and my experience over the years has taught me that an anxiety/ depression/ negative way of behaviour or thinking etc is as a result of trying to find a way to cope with a trauma, and/or a loss of sense of who we are. Very often, the coping mechanism which was brought in to survive to begin with, if maintained, can affect our lives in a negative way.

Generally we don't realise that we are stuck in a particular way of behaving or thinking and feeling, and counselling is a space to explore and learn about ourselves and then to change. Some clients come to counselling to look at a specific event which they are struggling to come to terms with, or are feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, grief, or depression.
Services
I see every person as a unique individual who will react to difficult life events in their own way. There is no right or wrong, or degree of distress which should or should not merit counselling. If you are hurting to a point that it is affecting how you experience your daily life and relationships, then that is a good enough reason to allow yourself the opportunity to have counselling and work through the difficult issues causing your pain.
Counselling and psychotherapy are umbrella terms that cover a range of talking therapies. They are delivered by trained practitioners like me who work with people over a short or long term to help them bring about effective change or enhance their wellbeing. Usually people choose to have therapy because they are experiencing difficulties and distress in their lives.
We are living in an age when all of us are more likely to be exposed to the tragedies of war, terrorism, natural disaster or other forms of violence such as physical or sexual assault. Even when we are not experiencing the event directly, we are witnessing it through media which is often graphic and bombarding.
I work integrating Person centered and Psychodynamic theory into my work and will use other theories and skills where appropriate. Person centered therapy devised by Carl Rogers, is based on the idea that you my client, enters into a relationship with me where you are allowed to freely express any emotions and feelings.
I am happy to answer any initial queries you may have and to discuss the reasons you are looking for therapy by phone or email at no cost. If I cannot help you I will try to assist in finding you the support you need (with your agreement). Registered with Aviva, AIG, Cigna, and WPA. If you require me to register with an alternative insurer, I will register where feasible.
