Bakers Funeral Services, based in Danbury near Chelmsford, Essex have been arranging personal funerals within our local community since 1878. We understand that losing a loved one presents many challenges at a time when you are feeling the shock and sadness of your loss. We are here to help you at every step, and to make it as smooth as possible at this difficult time.

Having recently celebrated our 140 year anniversary, we are a well-recognised local name and take pride in providing a 24 hour professional and caring service, offering impartial and constructive advice at all times. Bakers Funeral Services are based on Eves Corner in Danbury near Chelmsford, Essex and benefit from having a private arranging room and chapel of rest.
Services
Bakers Funeral Services, along with its sister company A.G Smith Funeral Directors (based in Maldon and Southminster, Essex) are independent Funeral Directors. As independent Funeral Directors, we enjoy more flexibility to enable us to personalise your funeral and offer competitive funeral packages.
We understand that losing a loved one presents many challenges. The Doctor treating the deceased will complete the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death needed for registration. In some cases the hospital bereavement office will email the certificate directly to the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriage.
Bakers Funeral Services are here to arrange the perfect tribute for your loved one, bringing people together to express sadness of their loss, whilst celebrating your loved one and paying tribute to the life they lived, their achievements and the memories and love they leave behind.

We will arrange all aspects of the funeral to help ensure it all goes smoothly - from arranging the date and time with the church, crematorium, cemetery or woodland, to arranging the floral tributes and printed Order of Service. As part of the donations collection service we offer, we provide an "In Memory Page" which will be personalised for your loved one.
Natural, Woodland or Green Burials are becoming more popular as an alternative to traditional churchyard or cemetery burials. They offer a chance to be interred in a natural environment of living landscape, helping to create new eco-systems with the planting of trees and shrubs, promoting the natural wildlife.
If your loved one was not a religious person, you may prefer to organise a funeral that does not include the traditional religious hymns or prayers. You may decide to ask a Celebrant or Humanist Officiant to conduct the funeral, in which they will focus on your loved one and the life they led. Funerals do not have a legal status, so can be held in a place personal to your loved one.

Very disappointed. On arrival to meet Jack on a very hot day we were not offered a glass of water. Jack couldn’t tell us whether my husband’s remains had been collected or were still at the hospital. The charity we had asked for was not correct - I had to phone to get the correct charity established. On the morning of the funeral I was telephoned by Jack to tell me that Tony would be accompanying the bearers, not him. The only good thing that happened was the celebrant - Kate Milner, who was amazing - taking so much trouble to “know” my husband that all the funeral guests commented on how

I would like to thank you for all of your attention to detail whilst arranging the funeral and on the day of the funeral for the undivided attention you gave my elderly Nan who had lost her husband. The service you and the Bearers provided on the day was so professional and seamless. Thank you for your thoughtfulness and the extra little things you did. I know you went that extra mile to provide a special funeral for my beloved Grand Father and to make sure the day went as well as possible for my Nan and family.
As the funeral took place during National lockdown, family members and friends who

We arranged a funeral through this company in December 2019. They started the service 15 minutes early at the crematorium as a result at least a dozen people arrived as we were coming out of the crematorium and missed it completely . This was admitted by the company. My sister then asked for their service to inter their ashes . The vicar turned up having spoken to Bakers but Bakers did not. We called them and they said it had not been confirmed despite a date being agreed with the vicar. Don’t use this company it’s a shambles.

I sadly lost my husband earlier this year and used Bakers for the funeral. right from the outset, the service we received was impeccable. Myself, my son and daughter were met by Wendy, who immediately put us at ease and went through all of the different options available. Throughout the whole process, Wendy was available for any questions we had (and there were many). We had a bespoke coffin wrap reflecting my Husband's love of the sea., which everyone commented on. The whole process from the very first day up to and including interning the ashes for our collection was made as comfortable and as

Wonderful service given with a personal touch. Have sadly had cause to use a funeral director twice this year, February for my wife's mother and then April for my father. We used Bakers Funeral Services for both and could not have been more satisfied with the service we received from Wendy in Danbury. Wendy is wonderful, kind, helpful and efficient. My wife and I feel satisfied that both our parents received the dignified funeral services they deserved, during this particularly difficult time of the COVID19 pandemic.

We arranged our funeral through Bakers. From the first phone call, they were outstanding. Fortunately, I have never organised a funeral, but Wendy at Bakers was very understanding and always there to help and guide us through the process. We also had some complicated arrangements but again Bakers were able to help at every stage and with each request. On the day, the funeral went ahead without any problems and exactly as we arranged it, plus the pallbearers were fantastic and very courteous.
Bakers were brilliant and I whole heartedly recommend them.
