We will provide each child with the sort of caring family atmosphere which will compliment the loving environment provided at home. We aim to offer each child the opportunity to develop in his/her own unique way which reflects a multi-cultural and anti-discriminatory perspective through planned activities within a safe and stimulating environment which includes an active and close partnership with parents staff and any other agencies.
Services
First Steps at Cansfield is situated in Ashton in Makerfield. The nursery is purpose built with separate play areas for the birth to 3 unit and the pre-school children. There is a large pre-school room that accommodates 24 children aged 3-5 years, but could have up to 32 children due to its large space.
Louise the Nursery Manager has 27 years experience in Childcare, and has worked here at First Steps since 1998. She is very much hands on within the nursery rooms together with her Deputy Manager Angela and third in charge Samantha. Louise is also our Designated safeguarding Lead and Special Educational needs co-ordinator.
At First Steps we encourage all our children to develop and grow through a well balanced healthy diet. We offer daily nutritious food for all the children in our care; our menus are carefully planned with the emphasis on healthy eating. We have a fully equipped kitchen inspected by Environmental Health Officers and rated a 5. Our lunches are prepared freshly every day by our kitchen team at Cansfield High, our afternoon snack is prepared on site.
My name is Amy Oxbury and I am based in the baby room which is part of the birth to 3 unit. I have worked at First Steps since 2014. My initial focus in this room is to provide a calm and warm environment for babies where they feel loved and cared for. I aim to provide a welcoming, safe and secure learning environment enhanced with high quality, stimulating resources.
The pre school room is very much a play and learning environment that offers inspiring activities and provides children with opportunities to develop holistically together with their peers. We pay special attention to language and interaction, where children are actively encouraged to talk and express themselves in our language rich environment.
