Ann qualified with a Diploma in Naturopathy and Acupuncture with the College of Naturopathic and Complementary Medicine, London in 2002. After 18 months in practice, she decided that she wanted to gain further skills in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in order to enhance the level of care she could offer her clients.
Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) also referred to as Chinese medicine (CM) has a rich history spanning approximately 4,000 years. It distinguishes itself from Western medicine by its own underlying medical theory and therapeutic techniques, and its origin and development are intimately linked to Man's experience of living close to his natural environment and the influence of his culture.
Acupuncture is a gentle and effective way of treating fertility and gynaecological problems. The months leading up to conception are viewed in Traditional Chinese Medicine as a window of opportunity to enhance a woman's health and wellbeing, and value is placed on strengthening her energy in preparation for a healthy pregnancy.
Used for over 2,000 years in China as a specialised treatment for women in pregnancy care and postpartum recovery, it is becoming increasingly accepted as a valuable treatment in Western countries, used by acupuncturists and specially trained midwives alike. Pregnancy, childbirth and postnatal recovery are viewed in Traditional Chinese Medicine as a window of opportunity to enhance a woman's wellbeing.
Chinese herbal medicine in the UK utilises plants materials - leaves, roots, barks etc. In China, herbal medicine also includes the use of minerals and animal products but in the UK these ingredients can not be legally included in an unlicensed herbal remedy. Based on a personalised traditional Chinese medicine diagnosis, herbs are combined and prescribed to address the underlying internal imbalance in the body which has created illness.
