Shortlands Golf Club is conveniently located in a pleasant mature countryside setting close to Bromley and near to Orpington, Beckenham and Biggin Hill in Kent and Croydon in Surrey and is easily reachable from South London. The club dates back to the 19th century and in 2019 we celebrated having been in existence for 125 years.
In all those years, the course has continued to challenge and delight golfers of all standards in equal measure. The course rewards the accurate, thoughtful golfer rather than the one can drive the ball the furthest. To score well you need to be straight off the tee because the fairways are narrow with internal out of bounds if you stray too far off line.

Shortlands Golf Club, originally called Beckenham Ladies Golf Club, was founded way back in 1894. Clara Muriel is believed to have formed the club and she had a handicap score of 10, with her daughter Muriel boasting a handicap of one. 2020 Captain of Shortlands Golf Club, Kevin Rolfe, said their handicaps were a "truly amazing achievement" when you consider what they had to wear and the expected decorum of women in the 19th century.
Shortlands Golf Club has been in existence since 1894. It is a flat parkland nine-hole course with fairly tight fairways, mature trees and both grass and sand bunkers with good greens. The yardage is 5,222 yards with a Standard Scratch Score of 65 for men and 69 for ladies. The course rewards the accurate, thoughtful golfer rather than the one who can drive the ball the furthest.
The Head Professional at Shortlands is Mark Wood, who is a popular figure with members having been at the club for more than ten years. Mark keeps a well-stocked Pro Shop, which has an excellent reputation for outstanding service and accessibility to most manufacturers including Calloway, TaylorMade, Footjoy and Wilson.
Born in Liverpool long ago we came down to Bromley as my dad ( a marine engineer) was employed by BP in London. At the local primary school it became apparent that sport was going to be my outlet. Playing soccer for the school then onto Langley Park where I played all sports. I managed to scrape enough qualifications to stay on at 6 th form.

Shortlands Golf Club is the most friendliest golf club you will ever come across. The course is, when you look at it, simple. But when you get out there challenging. You could not ask for a more exciting course, not matter how much times you play it, each time is different. The members a special, the staff are friendly. A very special place!
