Services
We are an independent family owned funeral directors serving the community for over 100 years. Here at William Houghton funeral directors we have been serving our local community since my great grandfather started the business in 1909. We offer a dedicated, caring service which is tailored to suit our clients' needs.
Our clients are often confused and unsure about what to do following a bereavement. We will take you through the initial steps, explaining exactly the process of what happens following a death and provide advice on all matters you may need to think about. We are here to help with all aspects of funeral arrangements.
In most cases you will need to register the death within five days and it is best to visit the Register Office ( if possible) in the area in which the person died. This can help avoid delays getting the necessary documents. We would advise that you wait until the medical certificate of cause of death is ready before making an appointment at the register office.
One of the first things to consider for any funeral is whether the funeral will involve a burial or cremation. As doctors and coroners provide different paperwork for both types of committal, the sooner we inform them of this decision, the sooner the certificates can be produced.
You will also need to decide where the service will be held, this may be at a church or place of worship, at a crematorium, the graveside or anywhere else that you may feel is right for you as a family. In the case of both burial and cremation there can be a service at a church combined with a shorter service at a cemetery or crematorium chapel.

There are a range of funeral transport options available. The usual choice of vehicle is the motorised hearse, this is often but not always followed by a number of limousines of your choice to transport close friends and family of the deceased to and from the ceremony. We will of course advise on availability, practicality and costs on a range of available funeral transport options.
