The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Hugh Dalton, leaked key points from his 1947 Budget to a journalist on the way into the House of Commons to make his speech. The London Evening Standard published the details before he had finished, and he had to resign. It is unlikely that Mr Osborne will have to follow Dalton's example.
