Lochboisdale Hotel
A warm welcome to Lochboisdale Hotel on the beautiful island of South Uist in the Outer Hebrides. Calum, Karen MacAulay and their family run the hotel, situated at the ferry terminal in Lochboisdale overlooking the bay with splendid views across to Canna and Rhum. Built in the late 1800's the hotel is full of character and has a homely atmosphere.

We have 15 rooms, 5 single, 5 twin and 4 double including one family room that will comfortably sleep a family of 5 and 1 premier kingsize room ideal for honeymooners. All of the rooms have en-suite facilities and all but three rooms have views across the bay. Lochboisdale Hotel has a warm and friendly welcome with staff who are there to make your stay a memorable one.
Services
Lochboisdale is situated on a deeply indented sea loch of the same name on the south east of South Uist. It is a small port with car ferry connections to the mainland and Barra. The hotel was commissioned by Lady Gordon Cathcart the estate owner in 1880 as a fishing hotel and it is still full of charm and tradition.
If you are looking for a "get away from it all" experience, then the islands that make up Uist are the place you want to be. With miles and miles of empty beaches to the west, quiet roads and an eastern wilderness of hills and moorland, combined with a lively warm community, the feeling of space from the wide open skies and being welcomed by friendly islanders will relax, rejuvenate and feed your soul.
Uist is home to two excellent golf courses: Benbecula and the famous Tom Morris course - Askernish. With stunning views of the island and the neighbouring island of Barra, both golf courses present a challenge to even the most skilled golfer and are well worth the trip! Hebridean Sea Tours provide access to some of the most awe inspiring locations and sights along the West of Scotland.

Clean rooms with good service and traditional decorum. The feeling is definitely as if you're visiting an older hotel with some history to it.
The restaurant is good if you pick your dish right. The grilled steak was fairly tough and definitely not worth getting but the soups and haddock were fantastic!

Ruairidh Gray, a very hard working young guy, bar person and waiter. Love this establishment. Always my first port of call when I visit the Outer Hebrides

Brilliant atmosphere. Brilliant staff. Fantastic welcome. My friend and I were there to celebrate my birthday on 25th June.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. My birthday was extra special enjoying a very large margarita in the bar. This was special because the barman had to Google the recipe. Loved it... would definitely be going back there again.

My room reviews are based on my 150+ nights spent in Hotels and Pubs with rooms over the last 5 years. We stayed here one night in June 2021, Calum and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The bar and restaurant were nicely decorated and very clean. The room was fairly basic and as others have said, in need of re-decoration, but spotlessly clean. Our evening meal was "satisfactory" but made more enjoyable by the views. The wine list was very limited, and with hindsight I would have brought my own and negotiated corkage. The cooked breakfast was very good, 5 stars for that! In my opinion

The staff / owners fantastic. The meal we had was excellent (rib eye steak, great thin crispy onion rings), breakfast very tasty, loved the black pudding. Very welcoming, recommend and would stay again. Very handy as right next to Lochboisdale Ferry Terminal, so perfect if you land later in the evening and wish to have a stopover (but longer would be good too)! Anne & Chris, Pitlochry

Really nice landlord but the place is a little in need of some TLC. Beer was good, food was good, although not the full menu that we were expecting but that was fine. Very friendly.

Beautiful place to stay. The food here was absolutely incredible, and the bar area is great with a lovely atmosphere.
We came here and stayed for 3 nights, the staff here were so helpful in advising us the best places to visit. We will definitely return as there are a few more things we didn’t get time to do.
The hotel itself is in the ideal position, super easy for the ferry. Our room was large with a stunning view, breakfasts were lovely. I would recommend visiting South Uist to anyone and especially to stay at the Lochboisdale Hotel.
