I'm a BTEC Level 5 (equivalent to degree level) therapist offering sports and remedial massage and soft tissue therapy for the treatment of chronic pain and soft tissue injuries. I also offer oncology massage for those living with cancer; and pregnancy and post-natal massages. I'm based in Musselburgh, East Lothian and Portobello.
I use a range of traditional massage and soft tissue techniques such as trigger points, soft tissue release, assisted stretching, myofascial dry cupping, IASTM and gentle mobilisations to effect a change in the tissue to release tension, increase mobility and reduce pain.

I've always been fascinated by the human body and love to find solutions to problems. This led me to studying for a degree in Biomaterials Science and Tissue Engineering and in the early part of my career I worked for a company that provided skin cell therapy to burns victims.
However I wanted a more hands on approach to dealing with dysfunction and pain and retrained, studying for a BTEC Level 5 Diploma in Clinical Sports and Remedial Massage with the Oxford School of Sports Massage.I hated sport at school but discovered Ultimate Frisbee at university and have been playing ever since, gradually improving and eventually representing GB at the World Championships of Beach Ultimate in Dubai 2015.

The body experiences massive change (physical, hormonal, emotional) throughout pregnancy and following birth. As your posture changes through pregnancy, your muscles and surrounding soft tissues can overwork and shorten or become stretched, causing pain and discomfort. Soft tissue therapy is a great way of identifying the causes of pain and discomfort and treating them effectively so that you can feel more comfortable in your own body.
People with cancer can benefit from massage at every stage of the disease, from diagnosis, through their treatment and in the time after their treatment has ended. It is important to find an appropriately trained therapist that will understand the demands that the disease itself and the treatments put on the body and can modify their touch, techniques, positioning and length of session to be appropriate for each individual client.
Seated chair massage is an adaptation of massage whereby the recipient is placed in a specialised chair that is designed to support the body and put the patient into a position that helps to release tension and relax muscles. The massage is performed through clothing, without oils and lotions and takes around 10-20 minutes.
This is the standard treatment. Includes initial consultation (on first visit), any necessary postural/joint assessments, a full treatment and advice on remedial exercise where applicable. Perfect for people with chronic pain, soft tissue injuries or for general maintenance massages. If you would like sports massage services for your sports club or would like to have me come and work at your event, please contact me for further information.

I have seen a few massage therapists over the years, Vanessa is by far the best I have seen! She treats me as an individual and each appointment focuses on what I need that day. She seems to understand how I'm feeling and what I need even if I can't explain it well. I have seen Vanessa since she was training and she gets better each time. She seems to be continually learning new techniques and is excited to try them out on me to see if they help me. She regularly does an assessment with me to see how I am doing and also provides with with tips and exercises. Ontop of this Vanessa is a lovely person

I've had to change massage therapists on a lot of occasions in the past due to moving around with work. I was really grateful to Vanessa for undertaking a pregnancy specific add-on massage qualification to be able to treat me before even having met. She has helped me stay pregnancy ache-free during my second and into third trimester. Vanessa is definitely the best massage therapist I have been treated by in at least 10 years. Her technique is far less brutal than some I have been treated by yet still gets the results which is a win-win.

I've had problems with muscles for a long time and Vanessa's done a great job of loosening things up. She goes in nice and deep not like some of the rather timid massages I've had in the past. My Achilles tendinopathy is now on the mend after years of suffering and she's helped me make postural improvements too that should reduce my chances of future injuries.
