Rosemead School was started by Miss Dorothy Plumridge in her parents' house in Thornlaw Road, London. SE27. As far as we know the school existed by 1936 and it may well have started a year or two before. At the time Dame Schools were very popular and this is how the school would have been described at that time.
Children across the Early Years attend our Forest School sessions once a week in a mixed group from Pre-Nursery to Reception. Despite the name, Forest School can take place in any natural outdoor environment. Our Forest School takes place on our playing fields and surrounding woodland, and also within the school grounds.
At Rosemead we feel that children embarking on "the best years of their lives" should do so as happy, confident people. The philosophy of learning through play continues in the Reception year. The children are also introduced to a more formal approach to literacy and mathematics, with an emphasis on the teaching of phonics and correct letter formation.
A carefully prepared syllabus takes account of the requirements of the National Curriculum and stretches pupils in other areas besides. We still emphasise the core subjects: English, mathematics, science and ICT, and standards are high. Other subjects the children continue to study at this Key Stage include history, geography, religious education, art and design technology, Spanish and French, music and PE.
We offer an excellent choice of clubs that run before and after school as well as during lunchtimes. These range from Art to Yoga and everything in between. Our varied programme of around 100 clubs a week enables children to cultivate a particular passion or to try something completely new. A selection of the clubs on offer can be found below.
