There are times when we feel sad, worried, afraid, depressed, angry, hurt, abandoned, confused, stuck or even overwhelmed. Acknowledging that you need help or support doesn't mean you are weak, self-indulgent or crazy.
Considering the ever growing demands of the modern world, where many people constantly juggle family and work commitments often without the benefit of traditional support networks of previous generations, counselling could be seen as a necessity rather than a luxury.Emotional problems don't go away by trying to ignore them.

I majored in psychology at Leicester University and have an HR background in retailing and manufacturing. Since 1997 I have been doing something I love - running a varied private counselling and psychotherapy practice. I see a wide range of clients from couples who are having a difficult time in their relationship, to individuals who recognise that they need one-to-one support.
Counselling means talking with an impartial listener, someone who will help you to deal with life in a healthy way. In a safe and supportive setting you can rest assured that your issues will be kept confidential. A counsellor is someone who will treat you with respect and without judgement. What we are today comes from our thoughts of yesterday, and our present thoughts build our life of tomorrow: Our life is the creation of our mind.
You are unique! In our experience everybody is a unique individual with their own way of looking at themselves and the world. This means that we all have different strengths, limitations and resources for dealing with life. What is a difficult problem for one person may be easy to solve for another.
Do you find it difficult to ask for what you want and even to recognise and accept your needs in the first place?. What most of us seem to want is to find our 'real selves' and to live our lives with vitality and ease. As social beings we are, as children, dependent on our caretakers for protection, physical care and emotional support.
Just as we have developed our sense of self through relationships with significant people, so we can explore, accept and change ourselves within a caring, protective and supportive therapeutic relationship.
This does not mean that we can expect not to be challenged in the process, but that the relationship is built on a foundation of empathic understanding, acceptance of us as human beings with strengths and vulnerabilities and a commitment to honest open communication. Our fundamental aims in therapy and counselling here in Stockport are to help you to fully know and accept who you are and to develop your unique potential in life.
