You may be experiencing a particular difficulty or suffering from general stress. You may be searching for direction or purpose in life or simply seeking greater personal fulfilment. Issues like these can be explored in a safe and confidential environment with a counsellor in a way that is not always easy with friends or family.
Stress refers to the feelings that we experience when the demands made on us are greater than our ability to cope. At such times we can feel overloaded, tense or vulnerable. Stress is a normal reaction that all of us experience at times when faced with situations where we feel under too much pressure.
Feelings of low mood can affect us all from time to time. Feeling sad or fed up is a normal reaction to experiences that are upsetting, stressful or difficult; those feelings will usually pass. If the feelings persist and are interfering with your life it may be time to seek help. Depression is quite common and affects men and women of all ages.
Healthy and satisfying relationships can help make our lives more fulfilling. Relationship problems at home, in the family, at work or socially are very common and can cause great distress. It may be an intimate relationship that has become difficult or you may be finding it hard to get on with someone at work.
This approach has evolved from early work based on Freudian psychology. It explores how we are influenced by sub-conscious thought processes and often involves exploring how childhood experiences have affected our thinking and behaviour. My original training in the 1990's was influenced by this approach and some of those insights still inform my practice.
