Royal Epping Forest Golf Club is full of history. The ground dates back to the time of Henry VIII, when archers would go out hunting for eagles. Nothing much has changed except that now it is golfers who come home telling of their quest for that rare eagle, and occasional birdie.
The course remains a challenging 6,000 plus yards, with many tree lined fairways and closely cropped greens that, despite the lightest tap of the putter, will speed your ball on its way. Here you are just 11 miles from the City, easily accessible via the M11 or North Circular, with car parking near enough to the Clubhouse, but far enough away from any wayward shot to the 18th green.

Services
The Golf Course in Chingford was originally established in 1888 as the Royal Epping Forest Golf Club (REFGC). The Club's first professional, William Dunn Jr, expanded the nine holes to a 22-hole course extending from Hawk Wood to Warren Wood, and across Rangers Road. In 1901, the City of London took responsibility for the course and public play was regulated for the first time by the City of London with the use of annual season tickets.
Play socially or competitively as you prefer. There are club competitions every weekend as well as midweek. Members can book tee times at a time of their choosing and/or select a preferred tee-time. These are allocated to the club by the Corporation of London, who run the course. If you are new to the club then simply put your name down on a start sheet.
The course is arranged in two loops of nine and rises about 100'. Each loop starts on Chingford Plain, slowly climbing up into the forest before descending and ending on Chingford Plain. Due to a local Epping Forest bye-law, non-natural features are restricted, thus retaining the forest's original appearance.

Here at REFGC we pride ourselves on having a friendly, relaxed and welcoming atmosphere in the Club. Even our dress code is relaxed! For many of our members, the Club is an important part of their everyday social life where good friendships have been built. Lively social events are regularly held in the clubhouse for members and their guests.
